It is not good overall, but compared to the alternatives out there, it is absolutely relatively splendid.

I have huge issues with the establishment, but given the two extremes that havs sucked up much of the political oxygen for the past few years (far left progressives and alt-right/right wing nationalists), I occasionally find myself looking to establishment figures to help me retain my sanity.

The 1980-present establishment is far worse than the 1932-1979 establishment.

A completely meaningless term.

I mean there is picture of Bernie Sanders in this thread of someone who is outside of the "establishment". This is despite the fact that he is the top ranking Democrat on the senate budget committee and is also regarded as being part of the Senate Democrat's leadership team. And of course people regard Trump as being anti-establishment despite him being the POTUS.

The establishment is the establishment for a reason, because for the most part it works.  People are getting restless and now its become trendy to look at radical new ideologies that were once on the fringes (because they were meant to be on the fringes), but it's time for a return to normalcy.  Give me a boring, capable President with a quietly effective administration and a Congress that operates the way it did before people wanted to "reform" it.

The primary purpose of any "establishment" (like others I find the term quite meaningless) is to keep itself in power. Therefore it's a contradiction to say that it works while also acknowledging that people are desiring alternatives to it.

The 1980-present establishment is far worse than the 1932-1979 establishment.

Yes, it's quite telling that the Socialist Party (or any other force to the left of the Democrats) never captured the presidency during the 1930s, or even as much as 10% of the popular vote. FDR knew what he was doing.

Terrible. Whether it's the left or the right, the politically correct professional elite managerial class has stifled Americans with too many regulations and policies. They should all be taken off the books.

The managerial class is notorious for pushing regulations, after all.

To be fair there seems to be a bit of a distinction between the managerial class and some professionals. Let's just say that I think lawyers like government regulation more than investment bankers Tongue.

You Know the Current GOP Establishment is more economically conservative than Trump is. Actually Two of Trump's main policies(On Trade and on Russia) his position lines up with the Pre 2016 Democratic Party positions instead of the Republican one.

Reagan also was an establishment President it was just that he was part of the Western Republican Establishment instead of the old Eastern one. In 1980  Reagan was the one who had most of the endorsements not George HW Bush so the idea that Reagan was an anti-establishment president like you and most Trump supporters think is really not true(Heck I believe it was the CA GOP Establishment what pushed him into running for Governor in 1966)
