It is April 2130, and the revolutionaries have won. Mars has been freed, and the forces of Earth have been driven off-world. This is not, however, the end of the story. The Independence War was fought by a military cabal. Mars cannot be governed by such. On the hills of Pavonis Mons, in the booming city at the base of a space elevator, a constitution is being written.
Rules:
In this game, you are a delegate to the Martian Constitutional Convention. You can introduce your character using this format:
Name: Frank Thompson
Region from: Argyre Basin
Personal politics: Radical Socialist
The game begins when 8 people give characters. The only current rule in the constitution is that any amendment must gather 3/4 support or more from those voting. All amendments will be available to vote on for one week. If you wish to express support or dissent, note it in a post. If you wish to propose an amendment, write in a post.
All amendments that have passed will be stored in this
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S8_kCm3GBMWKeCD0sT0r3TnKsjN636UTP6CoCswlPLY/edit google doc. The constitutional convention will conclude when 3/4 of those voting vote to conclude it.
Background:
Mars in 2130 has about two million people, living in a number of minor and major cities scattered around the surface. The 6 largest cities are Burroughs, on the shores of Isidis, Dao near the Hellas sea, Pavonis on Tharsis, Kasei on the edges of Tharsis, Odessa on the Hellas islands, and Persephone on the shores of Elysium. These six cities have about half of the Martian population. Mars as a whole has an economy that is dependent largely on scientific research and heavy industry, with some native services and agriculture.
The atmosphere is 450 millibars thick, of which 50% is CO2, 30% is Nitrogen, 19% is Oxygen, and 1% is other. The air is noticeably thin, but breathable with a mask. The average surface temperature is 35 Fahrenheit. The northern sea ices over frequently, but the temperature is warm enough that plants grow all across the surface. Animal life is still rare, however, owing to carbon dioxide toxicity. The atmosphere is slowly becoming breathable, but the process will take centuries until the cities can leave their domes.
This game is an opportunity to design an entirely new government from scratch. If you have any questions about background, please ask me.
