All three pretty solid blue states now a days and even though they were less blue in 2004, these were all states Obama won in 2008. What was so different for Bush and how did he manage to win all 3?!

The growth of metro areas wasn't quite there to give the state to the Democrats in 2000 or 2004. In 2008, I don't think it was at that point either, but Obama's general appeal managed to overcome that. By 2012, I think the population boom is sufficient to put these states squarely in the Democratic camp.

Bush did perfectly fine in the metro areas, it's not like there were a bunch of Metro Area Democrats that were just simply outvoted.
