In 1976, President Gerald Ford wins reelection over Jimmy Carter. The economy still is not so well in 1980, but better than it was in IRL. The Mullahs still take over Iran, but Ford is able to prevent to hostage crisis and responds with more strenght to Soviet agression in Afghanistan. Term-limited and ready to retire in 1980, Ford is not a candidate. Almost 1976-nominee Ronald Reagan beats Vice President Bob Dole for the GOP's nomination but agrees to leave him on the ticket as his running mate.
On the Democratic side, Texas Senator Lloyd Bentsen emerges as the nominee out of a crowded field.
Who wins? Discuss with maps and pick a running mate for Bentsen.
