President Kirsten Gillibrand's New York Senate seat was given to Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY-04) by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who appoints Rice in December 2016. A special election was held in November 2017, and Rice won the election with 67% of the vote against a perennial GOP challenger.
However, Rice faces a tough reelection from the right and the left.
In the June 2018 primary, Rice defeats progressive candidate and challenger Angel Delgado to run for the fall elections.
Feisty New York Yankees president Randy Levine decides to run for the U.S. Senate seat for the Republicans, and he easily wins the GOP primary.
