The other party leaders remain the same. Rommel is elected party leader with the support of Richard von Weizsäcker against the opposition by Helmut Kohl. What happens?

Sounds to me that there would be a civil war raging in the Union in this scenario. The SPD wins. It would be like the UK in 1997 except the CDU doesn't do nearly as badly as the Tories did (but the SPD would still win pretty easily).
