While Democrats seem ambivalent about the Miers selection to the Supreme Court, some conservatives have become absolutely livid about the prospect of putting her on the Court...

Will the Miers Confirmation battle become a litmus test for Republicans with conservatives demanding a more conservative nominee?

What does conservative hopeful Sam Brownback, for instance, have to say?

What will George Allen do?

Allen will most certainly vote to confirm.  He's not a maverick or a risk-taken, he's just molding himself to the establishement's liking.  Guys like Coburn and Brownback are the only ones who I can see straying from Bush and voting against Miers.  These guys could inspire the conservatives comes 2008.

I don't think it has any effect on the Democratic presidential primary.

If she isn't approved, nothing. I'm beginning to believe she won't be.

People won't vote against her -- the only way she isn't confirmed is if she makes a foll of herself at the hearings and then is withdrawn by the Bush team, who are looking to save face.  The likelyhood of that happening can't be much higher than 5%.

It all depends upon how she votes in key cases in the next couple of years (presuming she's confirmed).

If she casts liberal votes, Republicans voting for her confirmation will have a lot of explaining to do.

If she casts conservative votes (i.e. to uphold the Constitution) Democrats who vote to confirm her will be in trouble with liberals.
