I assume your dislike for Ike has to do with his Middle East policies, but I'm not sure exactly what.

I do like Ike on balance, but, yes, I dislike him for his middle east policies.

1. Abandoning US, UK, Israel during the Suez Canal Crisis in favor of Egypt
2. Believing Egypt could actually be won away from Soviet influence; also believing that Egypt was controllable in any shape or form
3. Mishandling of Iran
4. Epic failure of the Eisenhower Doctrine

http://www.thetower.org/article/we-are-still-living-with-eisenhowers-biggest-mistake-suez-egypt-israel-ikes-gamble-michael-doran/ does a good job talking about my issues w/ Ike in relations to the Suez Canal Crisis.

But the Cold War was a far bigger foreign policy issue in the 1950s and IKE Cold War policies were brilliant and really helped stop the Communist advance in its tracks.

But the Cold War was a far bigger foreign policy issue in the 1950s and IKE Cold War policies were brilliant and really helped stop the Communist advance in its tracks.

His failures in the middle east threw out two major players from the region (UK and France) and this allowed for the USSR to storm in and fill the vacuum.

The Cold War was obviously the biggest issue. And he failed on it in the Middle Eastern sphere. It allowed the Soviets to gain a strong footing in a region where they previously had a weak one.

Also even in the European theater he was severely lacking: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_Revolution_of_1956
