Trump’s disapproval on Charlottesville was usually in the 50% to 60% range. But those people who said that the White Nationalists were solely to blame was usually between 40% to 45% in other polls. Where’s the disconnect? Even a small but significant slice of Democrats (about 20%) were often likely to say counter protesters shared the blame.

Describe the people who disapproved of the response but agreed with the “both sides” blame in polls. It makes no sense.

This country in general makes no sense, so why shouldn't the people residing in it reflect that?

Everything has a reason.
