Rush currently serves as the Representative for IL-01, serving since 1993. In 2000, he was primaried by then-State Senator Barack Obama and won by a comfortable margin.
Hance recently served as Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, but prior to that he served as the Representative for TX-19 from 1979 to 1985. Running as a Democrat to succeed longtime incumbent George H. Mahon, Hance defeated Bush in the general and proceeded to switch parties.
