Well f***, easily the most disappointing election of the cycle thus far!

Seriously? Even among primaries for you Democrats this is worse than Lipinski surviving? Or expanding to all elections this is worse than Ohio 12, or the special elections in Kansas, South Carolina, Arizona, and Georgie you all nearly lost?

A little perspective is due here, man Wink

I mean, I Capuano has been my favorite member of the House since 2011, so I was pretty invested in this race.

Kind of amazing that the GOP is winning 2 counties (Barnstable & Plymouth) and on the verge of winning a third (Worcester) with a 67-33 ballot split in favor of Democrats.

Worcester: 35505-34547
Plymouth: 27288-23807
Barnstable: 17981-16273

Sane Democrats won in MA-01, 08 and SoS. MA-07 changed representative

What exactly was crazy about the SoS Democratic challenger?

I never called him crazy. But i will call Galvin competent and reasonable. Hence - sane. And i don't see a big sense in running against sane official for the sake of running. When you have really BIG areas of disagreement with him/her - another matter. Of course - everyone may run, but i simply can't understand a purpose...

How is he competent and reasonable when he has failed to modernize his agency and make it easier to vote?

Not really that crazy. If Baker wins his reelection(incredibly likely), then these 3 counties will be Atlas Blue.

But when Baker wins re-election, he'll be getting 50% of the vote or more (and not 34%). I understand there's ancestral Republicanism at work here to some degree, but it's still funny to look at Clinton winning MA by less (64/36 in the two-way) and carrying all these counties by 7-15 points.

I'll finish this up later today, but since MA was all that was going on last night, I decided to drill down and look at primary ballots by township:

What was the draw for Dems who didn’t have active local or congressional races for the primary? Galvin-Zakim and which Dem will lose to Baker isn’t very exciting. Republicans had competitive senate races and had to defend Charlie Baker.

Snag.gy converts it to a JPG when uploading; my file is PNG. Still, the file's integrity appears to be the same (no pixelation). Some of the legend I have there is blurry b/c I was lazy and just scaled it up for my national primary map rather than recreating it.

In a perfect world:

Still, I wouldn't say overall statewide turnout was particularly bad as a % of ballots - certainly less than the share of ballots Dems got in 2014, but still better than in 2016.

Um...why? The file can be easily viewed, zoomed in on and/or downloaded without loss of file quality as-is.

For anyone wondering, the precincts remaining in MA-3 are Ashburnham, 2 in Lancaster, and 1 in Sudbury

We already know the results for MA-03. Trahan won by about 110 votes (with every single precinct), and Koh has not yet conceded, which means he might ask for a recount.

No, that was Koh. She was the second most moderate candidate and overall a rather boring and flip flopping candidate. Koh would have been better.

Meh, I disliked Koh because of his affiliation to Marty Walsh. Glad Trahan is leading. Wish it was Matias or L’Italien though, but anybody’s better than Koh.
