Rep. Kathleen Rice, a white female moderate Democrat from the prosperous Long Island suburbs runs for New York governor to replace four-term governor Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo favors Rice, as she can appeal to upstate voters with a moderate, suburban, pro-business record.

However, the activist base likes Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York City, who energizes urban Democrats in the inner cities, affluent enclaves.

Who wins?

I think Rice might actually prefer to be Attorney General (either Statewide or Federally).

That said, I think she'd win a primary in this scenario.

A better question to ask, would be what a 2022 match between Cuomo and Ocasio-Cortez would look like.

Kathleen Rice.

Ocasio-Cortez may have won a district, but this is still New York. It's similar to Chuy García in Chicago.

I wonder who would win the remaining blue collar white male Democrats in NYC, Buffalo, Rochester, and the suburbs of Long Island among these two women.
