Gingrich did a lot of long term damage. Politics was much more civil pre November 1994 than it has been post November 1994 (and that's saying a lot because it wasn't all that civil pre GOP revolution). McConnell did  establish a terrible precedent with the Supreme Court vacancy in 2016 though.

I used to genuinely like Newt but he's turned into such a hack. He was pretty clearly angling for an administration job with all his Trump ass kissing during the campaign but he's keeping it up even though he didn't get one.
