Good

Bury him there. 😀

He will learn the fun of dealing with community activists.  He will become caught in between the community activists and the police.

A lot of you raved so about him after the last election.  So, I tuned in when he spoke to the first DNC meeting after the 2016 election.  What a dud.

Large city mayorships are the graveyards of most Democrat politicians.  Let us see how deep we can bury him.

You sound a bit nervous.

It’s that economic anxiety everyone’s been talking about.

Well I suppose it's an interesting dilemma for Kander. On one hand, if he wants to stay relevant, he probably needs to run for some sort of office, but if he does, he could end up hurting himself if the office he runs for ends up saddling him with baggage. Running a city seems like a fairly good way to do that, although it could also end up being a net benefit for him in the end.

Also Kansas City doesn't have the same stigma St.  Louis has and is actually growing.  It's not seen as a hopeless cause to the rest of the state.

I think Kander would be great on MO 05. Depending on suburban trends it could end up as a dummy mander past 2020 redistricting.

Also there really is no one besides McCaskill who could beat Parson imo.

Isn’t Nicole something, the state Auditor, the only other statewide Dem? She could run for Governor in 2020 if she gets re-elected this year.

She is favored to win this year but I think she'd be too green for 2020.

Do you think the Black community is going to give the seat to Kander, because he is a rising star.

Emmanuel is 74.  How long does he want to be the representative?  Does Emmanuel have political children?  I am sure he will step aside for Kander

MO-05 isn’t a black VRA seat though, it’s a white seat that just happened to elect a black representative, like NJ-12.

Glad he's not just trying to shoot the moon on a presidential run.  This makes much more sense.  He's got plenty of time to build experience.

He just can't see the appeal in a candidate attracted to adult women.
This is the best burn I've ever seen here, and from an account with 49 posts. Legendary.

A bit of a waste in talent, in my opinion. But hey, if he can use this to replace Blunt or McCaskill later down the road, then I'm happy.

Confirmed.

This would be a terrible move for Kander.

Big City Mayoralties are notorious dead ends.  Big City Mayors often end up sullying their reputations (deservedly or not) and because in most states, the rest of the state is often at odds with its largest city/cities, the job actually becomes an electoral liability.

If Kander wants a comeback, he needs to see if he can find a Congressional seat he can win, or wait to run for Governor.  This is NOT a good move if the goal is to be President.

Kander and Buttigieg are WAY overrated 2020 possibilities on this site.

I disagree that this is a bad move for Kander. He had no shot at winning the presidency in 2020, and any statewide race in MO is always going to be a huge uphill battle for Democrats. I know little about Kansas City politics, but if he wins this race, he'll be set up to join the cabinet in the 2020s, much like Julian Castro and Anthony Foxx did. He can then run for president in the late 2020s or the 2030s. He doesn't even turn 60 until 2041 so he has plenty of time.

See, that would've been a great idea if Greitens had managed to hold on to power. But the fact is, Greitens is out and Mike Parson is in, and Parson is the kind of wholly inoffensive incumbent that will have absolutely no trouble winning in 2020 if he were to run. Even if he didn't run, Kander would still face an uphill battle trying to win an open seat.

If he actually beat Blunt (which he really should have but somehow he did not oh well) I could see Nicole Galloway being the dem nominee in the subsequent special election.

This is a great set-up for a powerful statement on the Trump VA. I believe in Kander! You can do it!

I believe him, and this is an ode to how hard many people work to effectively mask their inner pain on the surface.

Yikes. Really sorry to hear that.

He seems like a genuinely sincere, admirable person. Can't say that of many politicians these days.
