Jay Gonzalez: 50%
Charlie Baker (incumbent): 48%

Obviously, this is extremely unlikely to happen. But will this forum have a total and utter meltdown if Baker loses?

Well, my first thought would be wondering when Baker diddled kids, then I'd realize he'd lose by a much bigger margin if that was the case, so I'd wonder if the Democratic House majority would end up being bigger than it was after 2008.

If he praised Trump for being a great President, up there with Reagan, then this result would be likely.

If this were to happen, it would probably be accompanied by Dems gaining 120 plus seats in the HoR (i.e. it won't happen).

It's more likely that it happens in a scandal than in a dem wave, so we'd probably be talking about how that scandal  brought him down.

I have trouble picturing a scandal that would be bad enough for a Governor with like a ~70% approval rating to lose, but not one bad enough that he doesn't get BTFO in a deep blue state.

Baker's electoral success relies almost entirely on personal appeal. If it were a scandal that brings down Baker in a close election, it would probably be one based on controversial or unproven allegations that he would steadfastly deny. How that would play out, I couldn't tell you, there's a reason this result is highly unlikely.

It would mean that we've reached peak polarization, to a point where less than ten states are really in play in any statewide races anymore.

Dems are targeting WI and OH, and with DeWine's vulnerability, they want that race. Baker is a Maverick.

My first reaction would be to see if the Republicans won any House seats at all, nationwide.

Probably a scandal involving Baker the day before election night.

This result likely means Dems have well over 300 seats in the House, and won every Senate seat they are defending in addition to Arizona, Nevada, Tennessee, Texas, Cochran's seat, sending Wicker's seat to a runoff, and a single digit loss in Nebraska.
