Some MAGA hats made in China may increase in price because of tariffs

Sen. Ron Johnson: Trump's trade policies starting to do permanent damage

(This is a bit surprising; I would have expected it from Flake or Corker, but not Johnson.)

In the same interview, Johnson said that Harley-Davidson was right to move some of its production overseas.

The Personality Cult has formed; it has taken over the Republican Party. Donald Trump, the Great and Glorious Leader Who can do no wrong and has become the Ultimate Arbiter of truth and falsehood, is now beyond any rational judgment or criticism.

The people around whom cults of personality form are the people of weakest philosophical or moral attainment. People of legitimate achievement let the achievements do the talking, and might attribute their successes to luck. With the Personality Cult it is all Self -- and everyone else is but livestock or tools at best, vermin or garbage at worst.

From the WSJ: Whirlpool sought and welcomed tariffs on washing machines.  But the retaliatory steel & aluminum tariffs have raised its costs, and as a result the company is worse off than before, with its share price down 15%.

Not sure why you guys are surprised that Republicans are breaking with Trump on trade.  Look up the TPP vote.

Jokes aside, this is literally going like one of Trump's business ventures: he's going to keep lying and conning right up until the end when everything ends in disaster and then he blames everyone else for letting him down since he thinks of himself as the smartest person in the world.

So now he's thinking of putting tariffs on everything that's imported from China.

...except they’re not?  At most they release “statements of concern”.

The Republican party, including Congress, no longer supports free trade.  If they did Congress would actually be doing something other than hide.

Yeah, this is a reversal of Republican policy and it may lose them the support of farmers and agribusiness. The ridiculous thing is that this is something Trump legally shouldn't have any day over and still Congress does nothing. We're quickly losing any indication of Congress having any power whatsoever.

Remember the MASSACHUSETTS MIRACLE?

We wouldn't be in such a mess today if the 1988 presidential election had gone to the most successful governor in United States history.

That is the answer, that is the way, that is the hope. Smiley

Take a look at the three month chart for soybean prices.

The prices have dropped significantly since planting season. The area where I grew up is heavily agricultural (my dad is a retired farmer) and also heavily Trump supporting. I feel bad for the farmers, but I am intrigued to see how this will shake out politically.

It's becoming increasingly understandable how Trump managed to run a casino into bankruptcy.

Orin Hatch has "threatened" action if Trump goes ahead with the Auto Tariffs. I think Hatch is full of hot air but I think we could be reaching a turning point if even Hatch is openly speaking about checking Trump's trade authority.

I think Michael Bloomberg said it the best: "He wants to run the country like one of his businesses. God help us!"

So it seems that in addition to having to pay more for certain items, the Psychopath-In-Chief will now also implement aid due to his stupid tariff policies, which increases federal outlays and the deficit. All this at the expense of you and me (the general public) paying for it.

And realignment continues!

Welcome back American System, been too long. We need to catch up!

Just what I expected and predicted would happen. He would use tariffs to try and help the previous losers in the old free trade consensus and then use subsidies to keep those elements who profited under the old system from bolting.

Combining tariffs with subsidies and low interest rates (if Trump had his way) is like something straight out of the Whig Party or the early Republicans.
