Seems to be a race between London Breed (establishment, "natural successor" to Lee, although not without her enemies given that she was ousted after ascending to the role following Lee's death), Jane Kim (soft Berniecrat, was once a Green when they were relevant in SF politics, banking on youth turnout) and Mark Leno (a long term stalwart of SF politics). Lot of odd stuff going on - from Kim and Leno teaming up to give ab Australian style preference deal to each other to a debate being interrupted by somebody claiming to be Breed's cousin, who proceeded to call Kim a "rice eating motherer".

Haven't really been following this race (I forgot it was tomorrow too), but I didn't really like how they booted Breed out. I sort of understand why they did it, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Seems like something that needs to be changed in SF's laws (make it so that the acting mayor has to step down from being the president of the Board of Supervisors while acting as mayor).

And then there's Angelia Alioto with a rather quixotic pro-cop campaign. She's got no chance compared to Leno, Breed, or Kim though.

@Fubart: I disagree and really wish they had done that to DiFi back in the '70's.

It has to be London Breed. The other two are an awful mix of dysfunctional socialism and anti-change NIMBYism

Because Blaritie supports Breed, I support Kim.

I obviously oppose the candidate who brags about the endorsement of George Schultz.

Breed actually has the most support in the tech community. Just go on San Francisco’s subreddit and you’ll be surprised at how much support there is for a black woman on REDDIT. She’s pretty moderate as far as San Francisco goes, even going as far as saying she’ll remove all the homeless from the steets by next year, and not really in a nice, rainbow-y way either.

Jane Kim and Mark Leno are tacking left, talking about affordability, YIMBY-ism, helping the homeless, what not. Techbros really do not care about those issues because they’re the ones making San Francisco unaffordable for everybody else.

That may be, but Kim's policies are objectively not based in reality, and she is pandering to the worst aspects of San Francisco politics, on all corners of the political spectrum.

Closer than Breed or Alioto.

https://sfelections.sfgov.org/june-5-2018-election-results-summary

Breed leads the first round with 36%, Leno in second at 27%, Kim in third at 18%, Alioto in fourth at 8%.

Nothing posted about the instant runoff rounds.

Still tons of votes to be counted, and I'd imagine that the later rounds of ballots will be more left-leaning. Breed can definitely win this, and is probably the favorite at this point, but we have to wait and see.

Evidence: Kim just rose over 3% with the last batch of ballots since the first pass through, while Breed went down.

I obviously oppose the candidate who brags about the endorsement of George Schultz.

I couldn't figure out which one this was, so I tried Googling it and found this on Kim:

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/california-historical-society-lights-up-the-old-us-mint-for-major-gala-celebrating-the-honorable-george-p-shultz-300569133.html

California Democratic politicians are truly a bizarre type of people.

That's weird, but he endorsed Breed.

Leno is narrowly beating Breed 50.42-49.58% in the final round. An amazing comeback for Leno who trails by over 10 points in the previous round and wins 2nd place by only 3 points. This could beat the Oakland 2010 mayor race, where Quan was 9 points back in the 2nd to last round.

Breed seems a little miffed at the idea that she now trails while she finished far ahead in the first preference vote.  That is the whole idea of ranked choice/transferable vote IRV whatever you want to call it: in a field of more than two candidates with no one getting a majority, see what happens. SF used to have a runoff for mayor anyway.

Looks like Leno will win due to IRV.  His tenure will probably be pretty short though.  Next SF mayoral election will be in November 2019 and I bet Breed will be looking for a rematch.

I imagine Breed would have won if she wasn’t unethically ousted by the council.

Today's update reduced Leno's margin to under 300

http://www.sfelections.org/results/20180605/data/20180607/mayor/20180607_mayor.html

Could be either one that wins.
