When you allow felons to vote, this can happen.  I'm not saying that a felony conviction should be a permanent barrier from voting, but this is part of that, and Terry McAuliffe made that happen in 2017, did he not?

This man has the right to run.  He has the right to speak freely, campaign, raise money, etc.  He doesn't have a right to win the election and he doesn't have the right to compel anyone to vote for him.  Does anyone really think he'll get 100 votes?

BTW, VA recently changed the sentencing law raising the threshold of what qualifies as a felony larceny from $200 to $500 dollars, 200 was the lowest in the nation. Virginia had a long ugly history of disenfranchising it's citizens, so it's good to see the pendulum move back to something normal.

Those rights should never have been taken away permanently (and some might argue ever, except in cases relevant to elections, like voter fraud and public corruption) to begin with, just like people would never seriously suggest taking away people's right to free speech no matter how detestable they might be.

This country seriously needs to ween itself off the idea of arbitrary punishment of criminals long after they have served their time, because that is what taking away voting rights is. Except for a very select few cases, it serves no meaningful purpose and arguably hurts a person's reentry into society by labeling them a 2nd class citizen.
