Well deserved for Croatia, England has, inexplicably, collapsed mentally and physically in the second half.

Croatia really has some strengths: a great mental strength, a balanced team, it will not be easy for France.

England played well. Nobody expected us to go this far. As I expected, Croatia deservedly crushed it. A France-England final would've been good fun though.

I wonder what Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri are doing right now. Grin

Xhaka is very rightly blasting Alex Miescher (secretary general of the Swiss FA's) fücking outrageous proposal to ban dual nationals from the national team. Completely pisses over everything this country is about.

WTF?

If that's implemented I will find it very enjoyable when Switzerland lose to Kosovo.

I just read that Stephan Lichtsteiner also showed that "eagle gesture", in which he has to pay CHF 5,000. Why did he do that?

Congratulations to Croatia. As a huge fan of all the Slavic countries, I will be rooting for them in the final.

And it's a massive kick in the balls to roughly 50% of Swiss kids who have foreign passports. Ju to appease a couple of racist cranks like nathalie rickli and roger koppel who aren't even in line with the UDC on this

Seems like solidarity with his teammates and/or just trolling Serbia.

England did very well this World Cup. It's silly how losing to a team with better players and getting further than they've gotten since before most of these players were born is "LOL terrible England choking!" but I guess it's more #banter than analysis anyway (appropriate for England I suppose Tongue)

France vs. Croatia should be fun. Probably won't be a goal-fest. Should still be fun, though.

Prediction: In 50 years time, the public reaction to the world cup, the building expectation and ecstasy, and reality hitting home after an encounter with an actually distant team will be used by lots of hack historians to frame the resignations of Davis and Johnson.

Non-european soccer is falling behind

Until 2002, the winners were one south american, one european, one south american, one european, one south american ...

Then, the europeans won 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018. Only in 2014, the second place was a non-european, Argentina. Brazil was not able to win a single game against a western european national team after 2002.

In the 1990s, because of Cameroon and Nigeria, we though that Africa could become a soccer superpower in the future. But this prediction failed.
South Korea reach the semifinal when hosted the World Cup in 2002. But never became a strong team after that.
In 1994, we though that the USA could become a superpower in soccer, since it is a very big and rich country, and when it hosted the World Cup in 1994, more people could become interested in soccer. But it didn't happen.
Mexico always play very well, but always loose. Mexico was defeated in the second round in every World Cup since 1994.

Well, then you should really love the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Grin

Cause the order of the winning teams is as follows:
North American - European - North American - European - European - Asian (!) - North American

And here's the order of the runner-ups:
European - European - Asian (!) - European - South American - North American - Asian (!)

En route pour la France !

England shouldn't hang their heads.
Their Harry Kane is very likely to win the Golden Boot. Congrats!

We should also honor the winners of other tournaments that were held today.

Congratulations to Angelique Kerber who has just won Wimbeldon against Serena Williams, making her the first German woman to win ladies' singles since Steffi Graf in 1996. 🎾

Pathetic Germans trying to get positive attention in a World Cup thread even though they were eliminated by Sweden in the actual World Cup. Sad! You lost, get over it Smiley.

So Harry Kane is officially the worst player to "win" a World Cup Golden Boot since the inception of the award, then... 3 penalties and accidentally deflecting a goal in. What kind of a c**tish manager doesn't let a player who's on a hat-trick take the penalty in an easy match?! (i.e. Stones in the Panama game)

England is probably the more overestimated team of the tournament: out of 7 matches only 3 victories (against fairly weak teams: Tunisia, Panama and Sweden)

Only Aida Garifullina's rendition of Kalinka, featuring Ronaldinho at the conga, really raised a cheerful atmosphere. 🙌🏻 👏🏻
