It appears WV law could get in his way:
A guide book for 2018 candidates posted on the West Virginia secretary of state’s website states: “Candidates affiliated with a recognized political party who run for election in a primary election and who lose the nomination cannot change her or his voter registration to a minor party organization/unaffiliated candidate to take advantage of the later filing deadlines and have their name on the subsequent general election ballot.”

Blankenship, who spent millions out of his own pockets to fund his Senate campaign, hinted that he was ready for a legal fight. “Although the establishment will likely begin their efforts against us by mounting a legal challenge to my candidacy, we are confident that — if challenged — our legal position will prevail, absent a politically motivated decision by the courts,” he said.

Great news for Democrats, pretty much shores up Manchin's re-election if it happens.

1) Candidates affiliated with a recognized political party who run for election in a primary election and who lose the nomination. (He lost, coming in a very distant 3rd)

2)cannot change her or his voter registration to a minor party (Which he did) organization/unaffiliated candidate to take advantage of the later filing deadlines and have their name on the subsequent general election ballot.

Simple case. No Blankensh**t in November

But of course he's throwing a temper tantrum and trying to change the law to get on the ballot.

I expected nothing less. Well he lives in Nevada right? Maybe he can sneak onto the ballot there. I wouldnt be opposed to seeing him get curbstomped in NV-1

I think this pertains to the write in option

The law says that he cannot change his party affiliation. Is that strictly required?  Can a party nominate him without him changing his party?

With a write-in campaign, his name wouldn't appear on the ballot.  I think "unaffiliated candidate" means someone who appears on the ballot as an Independent.

Of course we want Daddy Don on the ballot. That would be a great thing. But, let's not pretend that he will just sit this one out if he cannot make it on the ballot. Him and an associate have both stated that Blankenship will do all he can to prevent Morrisey from winning. And just because he does not make it on the ballot this time, does not mean that he will just sit this one out. I think he will indirectly help Manchin by pouring money in to keep Morrisey out. It has exceeded politics at this point for Daddy Don, this is a vendetta.

The new law, yes. But Blankenship can file before it goes into the effect and the older laws seem...not so clear.

Yeah more than likely it looks like Blankenship will get on the ballot if he does this changes from tossup to likely d leaning to safe

Honestly, regardless of how you feel about the situation pertaining to this specific race, it has to be acknowledged that sore loser laws are important towards maintaining a healthy democracy.

A disturbing number of Trump Era Republicans make very, very effective Democrats in practice, LOL.

It doesn't matter either way - Manchin will easily beat Morrisey. Perhaps if Blankenship is on the ballot, national Republicans will see this race as even more of a lost cause and will divert funds to Indiana, Florida, etc.

If he wasn't involved in the deaths of dozens of people, I would say that this guy is adorable.
