Al Gore vs Pat Buchanan 2000

What if Pat Buchanan somehow won the Republican Party nomination in 2000, following the trend of the second-place finisher of the previous election being nominated next time. What would be his performance against Al Gore? What would the results look like?

Haha. I don't know if this thread is meant to be satirical or not but it looks like I inspired it with my Clinton vs. Santorum thread.

Anyway, Gore would would probably defeat Buchanan pretty badly. Buchanan could possibly flip southern states like Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana from 1996 and keep all the states Dole won (I'm not sure about Virginia or Colorado in this instance) but the rest of the country probably would not have been ready for Buchanan's brand of conservatism.
