I read The Stranger in high school, and I thought it was depressing. I also thought my teacher's summary of The Myth of Sisyphus sounded depressing. I wonder: Was Camus depressed by France's surrender to Germany and the Vichi regime, and was he writing commentaries on these events?

He probably was depressed.  But what is the point, exactly?  We still must imagine Sisyphus happy.
