New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is now accused of physical and sexual assault by some women according to a New Yorker article.

Will Schneiderman face a primary challenge?

No because he does not have a primary challenge (or a general election challenge either) at this point, and the filing deadline has passed.

So he will be running unopposed in both the primary and the general, therefore securing re-election anyways.

Filing for AG is due on July 12, 2018.

A Republican probably can't win statewide in NY in the era of Trump. They would need at least 30%+ of NYC/NYC suburban vote to win statewide.

If Rudy Giuliani wasn't screwing around with President Trump's defense, he'd jump in.

Either him (and Giuliani probably screwed himself out of that chance by defending Trump so vocally) or Dan Donovan could probably beat a wounded Schniederman.

True. Dan Donovan is probably more electable in Upstate NY than NYC, especially with the Eric Garner police killing case.

I don't know if the Rochester or Buffalo or Syracuse suburbs outside of NYC and the Long Island suburbs care about police brutality, but Donovan could beat a wounded Schneiderman.

Like I said in the other thread, schneiderman can probably still count on all-out support from the NYT and WaPo if he makes it to the general

I would be shocked if he didn't get a primary challenge. Petition collecting is still a month away, and the filing deadline is over two months away.

If it weren't for the fact Congressional filing deadlines have already passed, I'd say watch Kathleen Rice and Dan Donovan...

They'd be Schneiderman's toughest opponents in the primary/general respectively.

Pretty much anyone in NY Dem politics who wants a future statewide has to be looking seriously at jumping in this. There's two months to file and people in the Democratic primary will be eager for an alternative to Schneiderman. Zephyr Teachout could probably become NY AG under these circumstances.

Any Upstate lawyers?

Upstate NY does not like Downstate NY...like how Downstate Illinois despise Chicago and the Chicago suburbs....

Any Buffalo lawyers....

A Some Dude, likely a Cuomo ally from the city, will jump in and take him out in the primary.

Would Cuomo be angered by a Bharara run? He would play play-to-play politics, probably.

Cuomo needs to call on Schneiderman to resign immediately and get things in order. Otherwise Nixon will try to tie them together.

What would he do, endorse Schneiderman and let himself get whooped in his primary by Nixon?

(Actually I'd love to see that)

Schneiderman may not even make it to the primary.  The Democratic State Committee could call an emergency meeting aND attempt to rescind their endorsement.  He could still run, but he'd have to get signatures.

There are ways to get rid of Schneiderman.  Even if he were nominated, he could accept a minor party's nomination for a judgeship and his committee on vacancies would fill the slot with the state committee's choice.

If Preet isn't willing to run against Cuomo, I find it hard to believe he'd be willing to run for any other elected office at this time.

Maybe he'll run for something further down the chain in 2020 or later (possibly when Eliot Engel, Jerrod Nadler or Carolyn Maloney retires)...or maybe he'll finally run for Governor when Cuomo decides he's had enough...or maybe he'll run another office, like Lieutenant Governor in the future (if it weren't for the fact Cynthia Nixon already has her likely running mate in Jumaane Williams, I could see Preet running for that office instead...or in 2022, should Nixon win, and Williams run for another office that year)

God, that would just be too good. In fact, maybe much too good to happen in New York.

Even if he did have interest in this, I think Bharara's previous corruption investigation(s) may generate a lot of moves against him in a New York state election.

Why would say...the Working Families Party want such a wounded politician for a judgeship? I mean what if Schneiderman, with his huge name recognition, actually wins?

i'm beginning to think maybe Eliot Spitzer got a bad wrap, folks.

A philandering Spitzer vs. Schneiderman, the partner battered with a substance abuse problem.

When you put it that wat, Spitzer looks like an FF.

What Scheinderman did technically wasn't illegal, just in horrible taste.

On the hand, Spitzer's performance as "Client #9" was illegal in this country... so no, Spitzer is no FF.

That said, Scheniderman is almost equally bad to me, because the prostitutes didn't really talk about Governor Spitzer's kinks and performance much... so there's less bad things to find about Spitzer from my point of view.
