What if Bob Dole selected former Tennessee Governor and former rival in the 1996 GOP primaries Lamar Alexander as his running mate in 1996? Would he have done better in the south? If you want, post maps.

Dole maybe carries Tennessee in this scenario, but I think Clinton still wins big here. I strongly believe that if voter turnout in this election was anywhere near today's rates (at least 56 percent vs. 49 percent) Clinton would have won well over 400 electoral votes and in my opinion, beaten Dole in the popular vote 51 percent to 38 percent.

I didn't mean necessarily winning but doing better.

I understood that, maybe a Dole/Alexander ticket would do a bit better in Tennessee (as Alexander's from there) but I don't think Alexander would add anymore to the ticket then Kemp did; people vote for President, a VP pick very rarely changes anything.
