I remember there were already threads about the political trends of fictional cities like Gotham (Batman) and Metropolis (Superman).

Stranger Things is my favorite TV series on Netflix. As we all know, it is set in the 1980s in the fictional city of Hawkins, Indiana where mysterious creatures are threatening the population. Indiana is usually a Republican stronghold that voted Democrat only once in the last 50 years (in 2008). According to you, would Hawkins trend more Republican like areas such as Fort Wayne, Hamilton or Evansville or more Democrat like areas such as Indianapolis, Bloomington or Hammond? And why?

Mike's parents had a Reagan/Bush sign.

Yeah it wouldn't surprise me if this town is a GOP town. Like Vosem stated, it does seem to be better educated than average and the educated tended to lean Republican during that time.

Also, I liked how they put those Reagan and Mondale (or was it Carter?) signs up to emphasize the era it's set in.

Season 1 was in 1983 and Season 2 was in 1984 so it was Reagan vs Mondale.

Yeah I agree about it going GOP. Dustin's mom was the only one with a Mondale sign and she seems pretty eccentric.

And possibly also Lucas' family since 91 % of African-Americans voted Mondale nationally in 1984 unless they are in the 9 % who voted Reagan.
