Confirmed.  Russia was notified of the attacks weeks in advance.

So although I don't believe this was the major rational behind the US/UK/French Airstrikes on Syria, certainly I can understand why the timing and optics might not play well in the court of global public opinion...

It does remind me slightly of the early '80's when the Tory PM's poll numbers were slumping, and Thatcher started a war with Argentina....

The Exploited: Let's Start a War

Lets start a war said maggie one day
With the unemployed masses we'll just do away
They won't mind, like sheep they'll go
They won't suss us, they'll never know
Lets start a war said maggie one day
Lets start a war said maggie one day
Lets start a war said maggie one day
You fight for your country
You die for their gain
Death and destruction all around
Shops and houses are razed to the ground
Burnt out houses empty shells
Here on earth it's just a mortal hell
Lets start a war said maggie one day
Lets start a war said maggie one day
Lets start a war said maggie one day
You fight for your country
You die for their gain
How they died no one will ever know
They said they would save us as deterrents they would be used
Except they brought destruction to an earth grows no food
No we are gone forever no tombs can hold your names
Lets start a war said maggie one day
Lets start a war said maggie one day
Lets start a war said maggie one day
You fight for your country
You die for their gain

Trump's air strikes on Syria currently are essentially a pin prick when it comes to undermining the Baathist Syrian Regime and their Russian and Iranian clients....

Still, the timing of the strikes optically is not good at all, at a time where Trump is basically on self-defense mode when it comes to all types of criminal investigations from corruption and financial issues to potential collaboration with the Fascist Putin Russian regime.....

Don't think this will go down well in terms of improving Trump's FAV/UNFAV ratings, especially since many Americans will likely look at this as an attempted distraction as the long arms of the law start to get closer and closer to his inner circle.

This is what Chancellor Kurz says about the military deployment in Syria:

I thought Trump and Putin were in bed together?

They are.

Russia knew about this attack before it happened.  Weeks ago even.  See a few posts above, it was confirmed by the AP.  This was a staged attack that is not meant to solve anything at all. It’s only intention is to distract from the investigations going on into Trump’s several scandals.

I was talking to someone last night who suggested that Russia will carry out a limited strike against US missile capabilities in the area, only to have us find out a year later that Putin threatened to release the pee pee tape if Trump didn't allow the retaliation to happened. I don't think that's going to happen, but even the 1% chance that it could is simultaneously terrifying and hilarious.

And if we're posting songs, this is probably the first that comes to my mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag1o3koTLWM

French defense minister says Russia was warned ahead of joint US, UK, French military attacks on Syria

Good in that there appears to be no risk of escalation.

Bad in that it looks like this strike was a pointless waste by war criminal Trump & Co, another sign that they're in bed with Russia.

Was it the French who alerted them or is the defense minister just the one saying that?

The US says it didn't give Russia any advance warning about targets hit in Syria strikes

So if this is to be considered true, then that would leave the French or the British, or undercover intel. The French minister was the one who contradicted this so maybe it was them?

LOL, I love how I can live in the real world where no one gives this a second thought or hears about this and takes pride in their country's virtue in forming an alliance against the worst evils. Instead 12 hours later, I read lines from people here claiming World War III is literally happening right now and wetting the bed in complete panic. That's really something to watch. Get a grip! The Internet and especially Twitter may be the next great evils that have to go if they are causing this type of inommensurate reaction. Public health risk.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Our government is far from monolithic. Your link is about the military saying they didn't tip off Russia.

Reports two days ago were that TTrumP would warn the Russians of our strike details.

They were obviously warned. (Which is not all bad.) And while we do not have evidence, there is a very obvious suspect.

Are we seriously going to make it into a conspiracy theory that Trump might have not wanted to accidentally bomb Russians and start WW3?

Ah thank you. Was not aware of the earlier warning.

And yes, I know there is disconnect, hence why I wrote “If this is believed to be true”

Mattis calls it a one-time strike... but that contradicts what Trump said earlier.

It seems more like a difference in semantic emphasis than an outright contradiction.  Trump said:

https://www.lawfareblog.com/transcript-president-trumps-remarks-syria-airstrikes

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

That is just utterly vague.  What does it mean to "stop its use of prohibited chemical agents"?  Assad didn't use chemical weapons yesterday, so has he "stopped"?  Whereas if he uses them tomorrow, he'll have started again?

For that matter, what is "this response"?  You could just say that "this response" means a policy of bombing Assad's forces for about an hour every time he uses chemical weapons.  That would be consistent with what Mattis said.

My interpretation is they said the same thing in different ways.

Mattis: one time strike, for the purposes of this specific op
Trump: we are prepared to strike again if you keep using CE

This is nothing more than an attempt to boost his poll numbers and to also deflect from the Russia investigation.
That's right.

So this was basically the same as April 2017 but with more bombs. A huge PR stunt.
