One of the main reasons for my opposition to any strikes against Syria is the lack of plan of what to do about Assad. Russia is firmly behind Assad, helping him with ground support and air strikes, but what's the West plan? Syria is a very divided country, with a lot of ethnicities that loath each other, just like Iraq and Libya, and they would not funcionate under a democracy.

I'm not sure what to think. On the one hand, I distrust Trump. On the other, it's not like we went in on our own--Macron and May both signed off and joined in. Putin's gone unchecked for far too long. I'm not sure this was the proper response, but I really don't know.

There is no plan.

It is typical thinking from Washington Foreign Policy apparatus. Just throw some bombs and lets see what happens.

Agreed with the above posters. Maybe some kind of military response is appropriate, but I sure as hell don't trust Trump to do anything right, much less something as complex and nuanced as this.

Yes, Russia is helping defend Damascus. That could mean a lot of things from giving Syrian air defenses info about US planes or shooting their own anti-aircraft guns. What it does not mean is Russia launching any kind of strike on US forces outside the vicinity of Syria, and it will almost certainly not result in any US casualties or at the most, very very few casualties.

Seriously people, researching Syria is part of my day job. This is barely a blip. The more interesting story to watch is the Israel vs. Iran showdown going on right now as well as Turkish actions in Kurdish areas.
