Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is a center-right politician. For Florida and nationally as well. He is obviously seen as politically overrated because he is seen as the Republican Obama. Young, handsome, appealing and a good public speaker but seen as "scripted". Obama was not seen as scripted.

Rubio is attacked left to right. From the right, former Gov. Chris Christie who feels Rubio is too young, inexperienced and has no legislative accomplishments.

From the left, Rubio is seen as a NRA puppet who kills innocent people with assault rifles.

Why?

His performance in the 2016 presidential election was comical to people who follow politics relatively closely. I honestly think that that's the main reason.

I'm sure some of it has to do with the color of his skin (unfortunately).
Look at what happened to Obama .... the Muslim guy who was born in Kenya.

Because he is not Center-Right, he just thinks he can convince people he is using sophistry in the form of rehearsed speeches. Charlie Crist was genuinely Center-Right, so it irks both sides when he pretends to be something he is not.

Ted Cruz was the genuine Republican Obama. He modeled his campaign after Obama's down to the T. He even had the same estranged immigrant father story and birther story surrounding him.

Obama was actually an incredibly polarizing figure, people forget, Hillary outpolled him in '08.

Rubio was the Edwards.

Because he's either "Little Marco", a far-right tea partier, a fake moderate, or a guy who ran a terrible campaign.

All that and then some.

He talks about empathy with the average citizen a great deal, but his whole career is about sucking up to donors.

He's also a guy who ran for President and who's always being looked at as a Presidential candidate, but not a guy who strikes people as their idea of a President.  He comes off as a follower and not a leader.  A guy who would be a Cabinet Secretary, an Adviser, a key Ambassador, but never a PRESIDENT, and not really a "leader" in the vein people want leadership.

Donald Trump is a LEADER.  Whatever you think of him, he has that quality.  He LEADS.  People FOLLOW.  Whether Trump is good or bad is another question, but he LEADS.  Rubio calculates, fakes being bold while playing it safe.  And he's a guy for whom more than one prominent Republican has had to get out of the way for.  None of that makes you their favorite.

Empty suit pol, a sort that got elected in large numbers in 2010 and 2014, and who would be forgotten had the usual reverse-wave broken against 2010 Senate winners in 2016.

Of course there wasn't much of a reverse wave of 2006 in 2012...

- He's not even a tenth of the public speaker that Obama is. It's a totally false analogy.

- He's not center-right. He's a firmly right wing guy, who's adopted some semi moderate-ish policies to try to become president.

- He crashed and burned hilariously in the 2016 primaries and even lost his own state.

- He seems to have no defining values.

- While not being THAT young or that inexperienced he just gives out that newbie vibe which is not really helping you when trying to run for the highest office in the world.

- He doesn't strike anyone as a leader of men.

- Looks are overrated in politics or at least doesn't work the way many people think it works. Mitt Romney looked like the perfectly distinguished gentleman US president that Hollywood used to cast in movies and he still got trounced. No recent US president has really been particularly handsome. Obama looked good, but not particularly sexy, and I don't think anyone could seriously claim that he won because of his looks. Clinton was charming, but not exactly a male model. I mean, isn't Kennedy the only US president with what you might call Hollywood looks (Reagan doesn't really count as he was old)? And he only won by a whisker. It's going to be interesting going forward to see how looks will influence a womans chance of becoming president, since women have historically been judged on their appearance to far greater extent than men. If you look at most respected women leaders in the world, they haven't exactly been knockouts. One possible exception is our own previous prime minister in Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, who happened to be a pretty weak prime minister.

Because he is obnoxious and fails to relate to anyone when he talks.

Tries to take good quality and thoughtful position on a lot of issues, but this is U.S politics.

A grubby game indeed.
