I support the assault weapons ban, but talking about ending gun culture is saying ending hunting. Admit it.

Yes. God forbid we "ban hunting."
We just might all starve and die.

There are lots of folks who actually would.

The salty tears of bronz and the R-avatars are delicious! Wink

I apologize. I unnecessarily lumped you into a small group based on one comment.

That's okay.

Ending hunting would be a disaster. I don't know how Democrats can win Middle America and have views like this on hunters.

Does anyone know what a hunting rifle looks like?

Do some liberals even know what hunting rifles are, and look like?

I have never seen one, but what is it?

Is there a possibility that bronz and fhtagn are the same Atlas users?

Yeah I’m fine with that. I’m an AR-15 owner and I’ve never had any run ins with the law or any mental health concerns. People like me shouldn’t be punished for the actions of a few buttons. Liberals always say don’t punish all Muslims for actions of isis, well don’t punish law abiding gun owners for the actions of phychopatjs

False equivalence.
Your statement could only be made by a "phychopatj."

How’s it a false equivalence? Punish the people doing the action, not the instrument of attack group of people who own said instrument for lawful purposes. If someone goes on a mass stabbing spree a la Michael Myers, should we ban steak knives? If someone likes to beat people with baseball bats, should we outlaw baseball?

Exactly. With how intellectual liberals always are, I'm always quite surprised they take this approach. Same thing during the Reagan years, wanting to get rid of nuclear weapons instead of building them up. They always blame the weapon itself.

Ronald Reagan you say? Let’s see what ol’ Ronnie had to say about guns

I'm sure Trump doesn't give a crap.  Nixon didn't give a crap about anti-war demonstrations either.  He explicitly said so.  He stated that nothing that went on in the streets or on college campuses would have an impact on what he was going to do.

In taking that stand, Nixon won the heart of Middle America.  Most of Middle America grew up in either the Depression or the WWII years, and they understood the need for National Unity in wartime.  I grant you that Vietnam was a significantly different situation than WWII was, but that was the frame of reference back then.

In that era, pollsters asked folks on their opinion of what they thought of the Bill of Rights.  They didn't say it was the Bill of Rights; they just asked the questions.  And, indeed, much of America did not agree with free speech, reasonable bail, a free press, and were for warrantless searches and seizures.  If you had subjected those Amendments to a vote of the Congress, they may not have all survived intact.

My position on the 2nd Amendment is that it is an amendment that affects any enumerated right of "the people" is something that ought not be repealed or modified.  Once that happens, there will be lessened resistance to repeal or modify other parts of the Bill of Rights.  We will need our Constitutional Rights the most when we no longer have them.  Yes, I realize that Donald Trump doesn't seem to know much of the nuances of the Bill of Rights beyond the support for the 2nd Amendment at his rallies, but I do, very much, recognize that significance, and so do millions of non-gun owners who value their Constitutional Rights as much as a 1st Amendment enthusiast who would never dream of writing a Letter to the Editor or post on Atlas.

If over 90% of the crowd voted for Hillary, why should they be scared?

If over 90% of their parents voted for Hillary, why should they be scared?

Demonstrations like this against the Vietnam War gave Nixon a 49 state landslide in 1972.

...

Please point out where I said AR-15s are used for duck hunting:

Let me refer you back to the point I was arguing against:

If you need an assault (or a semi-auto) weapon to "hunt," then you shouldn't be hunting in the first place.

Here's a handful of popular and often recommended guns for duck hunting:

Browning Auto-5
(semiautomatic shotgun)

Benelli Super Black Eagle
(semiautomatic shotgun)

Beretta A400
(semiautomatic shotgun)

Winchester SX3
(semiautomatic shotgun)

Remington 1100
(semiautomatic shotgun)

Here, I'll help you out: I never did. You just want to make up whatever BS you want in a debate because you can't handle that you know absolutely nothing on the subject nor are you capable of reading and comprehending valid, factual arguments.

If you're going to make statements about hunting, you better be able to back it up, or stop being so butthurt when you are rightfully called out for ignorant posts about it.

But hey, good job proving the point myself and others have made that pro-gun control folks are clueless and don't use facts to back their views, just "muhhh gunz r scary plz ban them".

Every babbling moron at these rallies will drive 3 voters out of the Democratic Party. President Trump will rally the Silent Majority behind the 2nd amendment.

LOL I'm as against these gun grabbers as you can get, but if you think things stop after today's rally, you're sorely mistaken.  These people aren't ing around.

I think he's trying to say that if the Dems try to make this a centerpiece issue for the 2018 and 2020 campaigns, it may backfire, just like running McGovern (who appealed to the protesting students) did in 1972.

It won't go anywhere. I still remember the Million Mom March in 2000. And this is really a dumb issue with bad arguments on both sides.

This was Nixon's secret in 1972.  Nixon tilted his positions on all issues to the right, and particularly the cultural issues.

The country is more liberal and diverse today, but the GOP doesn't need a 49 state landslide either.

Yawn ..... your post is putting me to sleep.
But if you want to keep duck hunting with your AR-15 and call that "sport," that's your decision.

Somewhat off-topic but that gif is adorable. It reminds me of a pet duck I once had. How can anyone shoot something like that?

The country supports stricter gun laws by 70%.
