I think Cuomo still wins the NY gubernatorial primary and advances to the general election, but Cynthia Nixon will mount a third-party Independent leftist challenge and could take votes away from Cuomo in the autumn.

Molinaro or DeFrancisco can't win, they need 30% or more of the NYC+ suburbs votes.

Could Cynthia Nixon even get along with the two men in the room (Albany political machine Carl Heastie and John Flanagan?)

https://buffalochronicle.com/2018/04/24/cuomo-considering-options-in-a-worst-case-scenario/

Even with Nixon atop the ballot, I expect Democrats to take back the State Senate. So, you'd be talking about Heastie and Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

Things would have go to perfectly for a Republican to win a 3 way race. 3 way races hardly end up with 3 candidates between 30-35%.

If a third party's gubenatorial candidate in NY finished 2nd, one of the major parties would be displaced as the second largest party.

This development would have MASSIVE political implications.  NY's Boards of Elections are staffed with "mirror image" employees; for every Democrat in a position at the Board of Elections, there is a Republican with the identical job description, from the lowest to the Commissioners.

Just imagine if Andrew Cuomo lost the primary, but was elected as the Independence Party's candidate.  That could result in either the entire GOP or the entire Democratic Party being displaced from the Boards of Elections for four (4) years by the Independence Party (the creation of businessman Thomas Golisano, a conservative, but a wild card).  Or, if Nixon finished second, the Working Families Party taking over for the Democratic Party.  Tens of thousands of Democratic Party hacks would be displaced statewide.  That may not be a crisis for you, but it would be a crisis for the Democratic Party; that's as sure as the sun coming up in the East tomorrow.

This almost happened to the GOP in 1990.  Conservative Party candidate Herbert London came within 39,000 votes of finishing second, ahead of Republican Pierre Rinfret.  Mario Cuomo only won 53% of the vote, but didn't see his coming vulnerability.  In that case, the GOP was caught napping.

Not to mention a lack of good Republican candidates, with DeFrancisco having dropped out.

Statewide, there's no real "Republican Party" in New York State.  They're more or less the "Not Democrats Party".

The only hope for the GOP in NY State is to make seroius inroads in the cities and urban counties of upstate NY.  This isn't impossible; the GOP has carried Erie County (Buffalo) and many Democratic officials from there are rather conservative.  Rochester and Syracuse have trended Democratic, however, and Albany County is a Democratic stronghold.  These areas have the potential to swing to the GOP, but they are put off by the sort of religious conservative party the NATIONAL GOP has become.

Of course. But it's still happening sometimes. Packard-Archer-Crean race in CA-43 in 1982 (37-32-31) and Hinson-McLemore-Singletary in MS-04 in 1980 (39-30-29) are rather good "approximations" to what you said...

Miner may run for Governor as an independent. I was all for her running for Congress. But, at this point, she seems to be a speculative candidate for every race, and actual candidate of none.

Ugh. She should've run for the House, she absolutely would've beaten Katko and now that's a seat that the Dems have little shot of winning.

With the way things are going, I think New York needs a gubernatorial election with RCV way more than Maine does right now Tongue

How would that work with Fusion Ticket Voting though?

Miner has confirmed this (that she will run third-party).

I don't know if this was ever mentioned but it seems Gravis did an internal two-way matchup between Nixon and Larry Sharpe showing sharp winning lol

It's extremely stupid but funny to look at.

And a poll showing her tied with Molinaro, and a poll showing Cuomo beating Sharpe by only 2 points lol.

The entire polling company needs to disband.

But UncleSam and mds32 told me that Gravis is a top tier pollster and better than PPP (who have a significantly better record than Gravis).

LOL at all these dumb Troo Left campaigns trying to run against Cuomo. It would serve the Kombucha party right if they got Molinaro instead, but it won't happen. Third-term Cuomo is not going to be friendly to their interests.
