Buffalo Chronicle - Cuomo considering dropping out and allowing Nixon to have the nomination, to preserve his reputation for a 2020 Presidential campaign, as a worst-case scenario

https://buffalochronicle.com/2018/04/24/cuomo-considering-options-in-a-worst-case-scenario/
The fact that he thinks he has any chance at all in 2020 proves he is insanely out of touch with reality.

I've been saying that for years. If he is foolish enough to run he will make Joe Lieberman's 2004 campaign look like a juggernaut.

You don't think a centrist can win the Democratic presidential nomination anymore in 2020?

A centrist, sure.

A corrupt centrist, no.

Despite winning the WFP nomination/endorsement, will Nixon drop out completely if she loses the Democratic primary?

I'm not sure which is better, the idea that he's thinking about this specifically because of his father's campaign, that he would replace himself on the ballot with a lackey that he wants to control, or the idea that he could join the Trump administration and then successfully run for the democratic nomination in 2024.  Terrified Terrified Terrified How is this not the Onion? I really needed laugh!!!!

I tend to disagree with many people on here in that I believe Cuomo could win the democratic nomination in my 2020 because 1. Superdelegates make up a large chunk of the available delegates, Cuomo has a good shot at them though his party connections a la Clinton 2. Coming from the media capitol of the world he'll be swimming in money to flood the 20 or so other campaigns so that he can squeak out a win in Iowa or NH and 3. His last name could get some red state democrats(who vote republican but never bothered to change their voter registration) to vote for him. That said if he loses his chances are done much like with Roy Barnes or George Allen who were plotting presidential runs but lost their own reelection bids

BREAKING: Cuomo to temporarily suspend campaign to join CPI(M) insurgency in Maharashtra.

Err...the post you linked to was written by someone (I don't think it even lists the author) who thinks Trump might fire Sessions and nominate Cuomo for AG.  That doesn't do its credibility any favors, to say the least.  I'm gonna assume this isn't true until I see it being reported somewhere more credible.

LOL Cuomo for AG? A corrupt dude working for a corrupt dude? Would he even get senate confirmation? That whole thought is actually weird. I expect him to win the primary with 60% and then the GE with a similar number.

1. Superdelegates make up a large chunk of the available delegates, Cuomo has a good shot at them though his party connections a la Clinton

The superdelegates have never pushed someone over the line who hasn't one the most number of delegates through the primaries and caucuses. I mean I guess Cuomo would get the majority of NY super-delegates, but I can't see why congress members from say California are going to suddenly rush to him.

Cuomo doesn't have the same party connections as Clinton does, who not only raised tons of money (and had Bill to lean on) but was also the de-facto leader of the Party. (Besides Clinton got superdelegates because she was the front-runner)

2. Coming from the media capitol of the world he'll be swimming in money to flood the 20 or so other campaigns so that he can squeak out a win in Iowa or NH

Raising money won't be an issue for any Democrat in 2020. If either Sanders or Warren runs, then they'll be able to raise more online than Cuomo can (as shown by how Sanders kept up with Clinton in '16)

3. His last name could get some red state democrats(who vote republican but never bothered to change their voter registration) to vote for him.

Would it? I think that his father is popular among Liberals, but he's popular in the same way that Paul Wellstone, Philip Hart or Ted Kennedy was (as an unashamed liberal)

No one outside New York except political nerds knows who Cuomo's father is. Some random old mine worker who's still a registered Democrat but hasn't voted for one for President in a decade doesn't give a sh!t about the Cuomo family.

However its not a hard question as to how appealing an anti-gun hardliner Wall Street hack would appeal to them...

Is there any actual evidence that Cuomo is considering dropping out? This seems more like the speculative fantasybof true leftists.

Should somehow Nixon somehow manage to beat clown Cuomo....you can bet he'd run a scorched Earth third party campaign against Nixon....even if it means the Dems losing

Nah. He knows that would screw up any lobbying or Administration gig he might be able to land later on. Nor is he about to turn into a Fox News pet Democrat type.

Cuomo's approval is at 54/39 (best since 2014), he leads Nixon in the primary 50-28, and Molinaro(R) 57-26.

50-28% at this early stage should concern Cuomo. I think that contest could become a repeat of the Illinois Republican gubernatorial primary earlier this year.
