Question: What is Hugo Chavez?
#1
He is a democratically elected President, just as legitimate as Bush, if not moreso

#2
He is not 100% entirely legitimatelly elected, but few leaders are. He's legitimate for the most part.

#3
He's not quite democratically elected, but not quite a dictator either. See Putin.

#4
He's a dictator. Not quite on the level of Saddam, but definately.

#5
He's a dictator just like Saddam, there is no difference between the two.

Elected democratically but seems to be behaving heavy-handedly. Venezuela's Freedom House rate in the late 1990s was 2,3, which was equal to India. Nobody doubts that India is a democracy, but lately he is becoming rather heavy-handed and his policies are doing more harm than good. The wealth gap is still growing, corruption is still rampant and what will he do once oil prices fall? PSSHHT

Between three and four. Right now he is probably closer to three but will probably move towards four in the future.

He is three at best, give it five years and he'll be four. They US will take him out before he reaches the level of five.

Not all leaders who were elected democratically have to govern democratically. Robert Mugabe also came to power by free and fair elections.

A very apt comparison.

Both are very evil.

The major thing propping up Castro's lackey is the oil revenues (much as the Saudi's).

Little attention is being given to how he is funding the narcocommunists trying to overthrow the government of Columbia.

He's held in contempt by latin american leaders (they worry that if he goes too far in trying to impose a totalitarian state they will be forced to act to remove him).

The fact that he had 100,000 votes discredited in his recall election for no reason proves that. Tongue

Option 3, at the moment. He started at 1, went to 2 and is currently entrenched at 3. He hasn't quite hit 4 yet but he's working on it - he's got his death squads primed - the "Bolivarian Circles". Just you wait...

1 of course. the rest is propaganda by private medias.

there are 80% of poor people in Venezuela and rich people thought to have the victory against a (left) populist... it's a little like if Kerry had won Utah...

Option 1

I'm not one of those No Blood for Oil Types, but the only reason the Republicans care about Chavez is because Venezuela is one of major oil producers. The fact that it took Pat Robertson to bring this issue to the forefront proves that his views are central to GOP ideology, which is very very sad.

Conservatives just can't accept that the people of Venezula voted and they lost, twice.
