F.D. Roosevelt (D-NY) – 57.2%

Woodrow Wilson (D-VA) – 42.8%

No way. Wilson, unaltered, doesn’t stand a chance anywhere, particularly the black-heavy Deep South, in a Democratic primary.

I assumed this takes place in a reasonable year for both candidates to run (basically only 1920) before there were many black Democrats, especially in the South. If it takes place today, with both candidates at their peak, I don't see how FDR wins easily in a wheelchair given that modern campaigns are so physically demanding.

In 1920, I give Wilson basically all of the traditional Democratic base (white South) and gave FDR the future New Dealers (Catholics and urban labor). This map is basically Al Smith's trends from 1928.

What would the map look like if it were today?

I feel like it would be similar to the 2012 Dem. map

I don't think Wilson wins Missouri, but something like this seems reasonable if this match-up were to happen today.

Today? Roosevelt wins everything except Kentucky, West Virginia, and Oklahoma.

In 1920? Assuming Wilson's health wasn't an issue (as you said it wouldn't be)... Wilson wins at the convention by agreeing to pick Roosevelt as his running mate.
