RIP, Rep. Slaughter. I didn't agree with her on everything, but she was good on key issues like health care.

I do admire someone who would travel from D.C. to Upstate New York weekly at age 88.

I remember AlfredJones posting about seeing Slaughter pick up her grandchildren at school a few years back. Sounds like she was active and healthy to the end. One of the more honest and sincere Democrats in my opinion, despite our political differences.

RIP.

Anyone know if there will be a special election or will the seat be vacant until November?

Knowing Cuomo, he'll probably leave it vacant. Will elect a democrat either way.

She was 88, so not (as) surprising, but yes. Sad

Some takeaways from this:
-Georgia is now the largest U.S. state without an open house seat. It's North Carolina if you disqualify it because of the GA-6 special election.
-Sam Johnson is now the oldest member of the house. I think Don Young will be the oldest after Johnson retires.

Not surprising but sudden. She was active until she fell and subsequently passed away of a concussion. Very tragic.

Why? This is a US House seat, so it's not like there's a NY State Senate GOP + IDC to cater to here.

Gotta have some time to find an approved candidate.

RIP.

Maggie Brooks or Cheryl Dinolfo would probably be the Republicans best nominees for the seat (the current and former Monroe County Executive, respectively).

For Democrats, Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, or State Assemblyman Harry Bronson would be my pick.
