Entitled people are the entire reason Trump won the Republican nomination and the election, Trump isn't even a Republican.

It's not the government's job to make sure you aren't addicted to drugs. Just like it isn't the government's job to make sure you aren't poor, or to raise your kids. That's all on you. So why does Trump think he needs to "solve" it?

He doesn't think he needs to solve it, that's why he has done nothing.

Maybe because people are dying at an alarming rate from opioid abuse?
Also, Trump is a Republican and you know that.

No, I actually want to see where it goes.

As for Donald Trump, he should do whatever is in his capacity to deal with the crisis as it has taken so many lives.

He cares about the opioid crisis because he thinks it plays well in Peoria.

More proof that the "addiction is not a disease" crowd has absolutely no idea what the f*** they're talking about.

The moral bankruptcy and complete lack of understanding about how addiction works from the OP is disturbing.

Addiction, like any disease, needs to be treated, not hidden from view or used by those not-addicted as a weapon to feel superior to other people.

I'm not some bleeding-heart liberal who blames society at-large for people's addictions, but the heartlessness shown here is saddening.

Use the new "ignore thoroughly" option, it's amazing! You don't even see this anymore.

Funny how I never see this sentiment when it comes to addictions to nicotine or alcohol (see: removal of cigarette ashtrays, public drinking bans, hysteria about "vaping")

Given the observable pattern of historical behavior from Don Trump (R-Moscow), he probably wants to put some pressure on his dealer so that he can get a discount on his uppers.

Because it's the drug crisis hitting his most loyal constituents (rural whites) the hardest.

Why does this forum attract so many teenage sociopaths?

Because they can't interact with people in real life for whatever reason so they come online and act like they really want to because to them it's not "real".

People with trouble interacting with others in real life need not be sociopaths. With Asperger's one must act just to seem normal. One must also choose between  good and evil, as does everyone else. Evil is a losing proposition in view of the lawsuits in business, job loss for misconduct on the job, and prison terms for criminal deeds that sociopaths and psychopaths endure.

Because sometimes doing good for those who have done us ill is the right the, perhaps the ONLY right thing, that we can do.

I mean, look at global warming. Emotionally, I want to watch and laugh as aging Republicans suffer the consequences of their denialism. But practically, that does no one any good. Working to address global warming and its consequences, with denialists or without, is neccessary.

The thing is that global warming might affect your life. If it was only affecting those who were denying its existence, would you care?

Well, as a 5th generation American and gay man, immigration issues and abortion laws do not really affect me, but I still care.

This thread is a dumpster fire and should probably be locked.

I thought about it, but the topic itself is a worthwhile enough one so I gave the thread a course of chemo (i.e., deleted a string of offending posts that derailed any discussion we might have here).

Because it's the drug crisis hitting his most loyal constituents (rural whites) the hardest.

This is true, although he screwed up by calling New Hampshire a "drug infested den." Not a smart look saying that about a state that has been one of the hardest hit by the opioid crisis and one he only lost by just under 3,000 votes in 2016. I don't think he was going to win New Hampshire in 2020 but he can kiss those four potential electoral votes goodbye in two years.
