He's an awful candidate in a Democratic wave year. Goodbye, Sweaty Teddy.

He went by Rafael most of his life before he conveniently dropped it when he entered politics, because he knew he could pass as white if he didn't go by "Rafael Cruz".

If he went by Rafael Cruz he wouldn't be anything, because the Republican Party (particularly in Texas) is racist as hell.

His senior thesis at Princeton in 1992 gives his name as Ted Cruz.

I had his senior yearbook (we went to the same high school); he is definitely listed as Rafael.

A true source of school pride! Don't feel too bad though. My high school produced Stacey Dash.

I had his senior yearbook (we went to the same high school); he is definitely listed as Rafael.

During high school, he was part of a group of students who would recite the Constitution. In its pictures, he is shown as Ted Cruz.

Who would have chosen the name he appeared under in an annual? It might have even been part of their style guide to spell the name consistently throughout. This might be particularly true at a suburban prep school.

I would be surprised if any of his diplomas used anything other than his full name. It's not unusual for a son who shares the first name with his father to have a nickname, even within the family to disambiguate father and son. In his congressional biography he is listed as "Rafael Edward (Ted) Cruz" - though Lloyd Theodore Poe is listed simply as "Ted Poe". On his SCOTUS briefs when he was Solicitor General, he was "R. Ted Cruz".

Cruz is 47, and he was definitely using "Ted" at least some of the time in high school. Unless we are considering running for class president as "entering politics", Spud's claim is definitely false.

Cruz isn't vulnerable yet, but if the Dems pickup TN and get past the thresehold, TX may soon follow.

Faux news in the ad? So Lyin' Ted once again used news that don't exist?

Yeah, not a great look for Cruz to double down on hyperbolic fictions when that's the trait that was weaponised against him in 2016.

Wow.

So I guess he once again outraised Cruz who wasted millions of dollars in ads that are just telling lies. I can't wait to see new polls between O'Rourke and Cruz.

That’s a lot of cheddar.

Still don’t think Beto wins, but this could really help downballot

I think Cruz wins by 5-10 points.

But TX-SEN is Lean R.

In all seriousness, this is what Beto needs to just get started - Texas is expensive to campaign in with its many media markets and several of those are expensive ones. He is also of blessed/cursed by the fact he is from the far end of the state, and so needs this money to build a name brand before Cruz defines him as a liar. But, it is an impressive haul.

I think this is reasonable, although I think the result's going to be closer to the 5 than the 10.

I don't think he's announced it yet.
