The people who were REEEEing about how the probe is just a secret ploy to protect the Podestas are the same ones that said the probe was a secret ploy to convict them when Mueller originally started investigating Podesta Group

Is that actually illegal, though? Buying the rights to bury a negative story isn't exactly new for high-profile people. Or do they think campaign money was used for this? Because that is believable, considering Trump is a guy who used his charity to pay for a Boy Scouts fee for his son.

Depending on who paid, it could also be seen as an illegal campaign contribution.

I think the main reason this was leaked was because it "proves" that Giuliani lied when he said Trump wasn't aware of a payment. Of course, we all know Rudy lies and Trump lies, but having it on tape makes it more difficult for folks to deny.

To me, this is just kind of a meh thing, but I get why Cohen's lawyer released it.

I'm not sure on that front. Regardless, it seems there were payments that Trump/Giuliani have denied even knowing about, but now there is proof that Trump knew about it, or at least discussed it, regardless of whether it ever went through or not.

Yeah. It is difficult to keep track of all the different lies the President of the United States and leader of the Republican party has told about both his adultery with  women in the adult entertainment industry and his potentially illegal attempts to conceal said adultery.

Fun fact: adultery is still technically illegal in both New York and Florida.
