Seen as an electable mainstream blue state conservative instead of a pharmaceutical executive in Bob Hugin, former Rep. Mike Ferguson (R-Hunterdon) runs for the U.S. Senate and wins the New Jersey GOP Senate primary over state Sen. Michael Doherty (R-Hunterdon), state Sen. Chris Brown (R-Atlantic).

Meanwhile, embattled Sen. Bob Menendez continues to get support from New Jersey Democrats despite a corruption trial.

In a Clinton midterm Menendez loses to almost any opponent with any name recognition, such as Ferguson. If Menendez is still under indictment, or is convicted with too little time to replace him on the ballot, the results could be devastating.

Mike Ferguson (R) 53%
Bob Menendez (D) 45%

Ferguson would win. I don't think a pharma executive can win like Hugin in either scenario.

Sen. Ferguson would be a vulnerable Republican in 2024, though.
