Platforms

Each party has until the end of the day on Friday to publish their national platform. Said platform must include no more and no less than the five central pledges at the heart of your party's campaign. (In the interests of fairness, and because there's only so much time I have to read and grade these, I must insist on strict adherence to the five pledge maximum.)

Won't our party platforms just be basically the exact same as the actual 2015 election?

The 2015 election already occurred. This is the 2016 election.

Bloc Quebecois Platform
I:  Entrust the Quebec government with collecting federal taxes by creating a single tax return administered by Quebec in the hope of saving the province's taxpayers $600 million.
II:  Have Quebec get its fair share of naval contracts.
III:  Invest more in federal infrastructure in Montreal.
IV:  Increase taxes on major corporations to 16.5 per cent from 15 per cent and raise tax rates for big banks and oil companies to 20 per cent from 15 per cent. Impose a tax increase of 1.5 percentage points on those earning more than $150,000.
V:  Amend the constitution to make sure elections can only occur every 4 years (As long as a Government doesn't fail), in order to stop blatant power grabs by Parties.

There will likely be some similarity. Bear in mind that every party fell short of their target in our 2015 and will be looking to improve their performance, and as such might choose to emphasize different parts of their program this time. This exercise is most relevant for the parties that have had changes in leadership since the election (Conservatives, NDP, and Bloc), but I would still like the Liberals to submit a platform.

OOC: Canada actually has a fixed elections act, (Passed in 2007), but the act didn't stop PMs from being able to call elections early (and this isn't one of those obscure loopholes no one would actually ever use either, we have already seen a Prime Minister call an early election while the act was in effect, that Prime Minister being Stephen Harper in 2008). Now, you may ask why the act didn't stop PMs from being able to call early elections. The answer is quite simple: Stopping PMs from calling early elections would require amending the constitution, which in Canada is absurdly hard, and probably won't happen again for several decades, if ever. BTW, you see this on the provincial level as well, 9/10 provinces have "fixed" elections acts, but none of those 9 stop the premier from being able to call early elections, because again, doing so would require amending the constitution, which as previously stated is very unlikely to happen.

OOC:  Welp, I'll just alter it to say "amend the constitution", no matter how unlikely it is, I think it's still a goal worth campaigning on.  Thank you bruhg

People over Profit, Principle over Politics.

1: A Sustainable Economy: Tomorrow is Serious Business: The Green Party of Canada pledges to create a Sustainable Generations Fund that will invest in jobs training, sustainable development projects, educational endeavors, and clean energy projects with the goal of transforming Canada into the world's most eco-friendly economy by 2050.

2. Strengthening Families and Communities: By creating the National Pharmacare Program, the Green Party believes the public can save over $11 billion a year. Other proposals include free of charge dental care for low income youth, investments in community programs such as gardens and athletic activities to encourage healthy living and deter crime, an increased funding for locally administered in-home health services for the elderly. The party is also committed to the legalization,
decriminalization, regulation, and safe distribution of marijuana as well as tackling abuse in law enforcement.

3. Restoring Canadian Democracy: With the many hurdles that stand as obstacles in the way of democracy, the Green Party is proposing a myriad of changes to the electoral system. The Green Party will advance forward with a serious plan to abolish the archaic Senate and expand the House of Commons to be a more representative, proportional body truly accountable to the Canadian public. The Green Party will also reduce the powers of the Prime Minister, redistributing discretionary and administrative duties to the ministers of the cabinet to truly ensure the government is a collective decision making body. The Green Party strongly condemns Prime Minister Trudeau's power-grab and calls for a "cooling off" period between general elections lasting no longer than six months.

4. Reflecting our Canadian Values: The Green Party reaffirms its commitment to Canada's core values of tolerance and respect. This means creating a safe and welcoming environment for women, transpeople, and LGBT Canadians in the workforce and in the public square. We also call for an increase in the amount of refugees admitted to Canada from conflict zones around the world, reaffirming our belief that Canada should serve as a sanctuary to all oppressed and marginalized peoples.

5. Commitment to our Climate: The only party to seriously tackle the issue of Climate, the Green Party of Canada is proposing a variety of ideas that will both create jobs and reduce the nation's carbon footprint. This includes defending our shores and interior from risky pipelines and drilling projects, eliminating subsidies to the fossil fuels industry and reappropriating these funds to cover sustainable development projects and environmentally friendly industries.

Platform of the Liberal Party

A) Cut Taxes for Middle and Lower class Canadians, and ensure it is revenue neutral by asking the richest Canadians to pay some more in Tax.

B) Legalize Marijuana.

C) Run temporary deficits of no more then $10 Billion for 4 years to invest in and completely renew Canada's aging Infrastructure.

D) Establish a Independent Non-Partisan advisory board for Senate Appointments, so as to ensure the Senate can no longer be used as a Patronage Dumping ground.

E) Enshrine into law a Universal Pharamacare system, which would drastically reduce out of pocket costs for Canadians, and save the federal Government $4 Billion a year.

For the Many, Not the Few

1) A Focus on Mental Health: For decades, Canada has been on the forefront of fighting diseases that plague humanity, such as cancer, AIDS and Alzheimer's Disease. However, we can no longer deny that mental health has taken a toll on many people in this country. Suicide rates have tragically been climbing since 2007, and it is time to do something about it. An NDP government will establish a Department of Mental Health and pass a National Mental Health Act to end this scourge.

2) Parliamentary and Electoral Reform: For too long, the Senate has been used as a form of peerage in this country; used to elevate a privileged few who are in the good books of those in power. A New Democratic government will abolish this outdated mechanism and reform our electoral system to replace our current voting system with a fairer, more represenative mixed-member proportional system.

3) Creating an Economy for Tomorrow: Our current economy is not one that is sustainable, and the NDP is here to change that. We advocate for increasing the tax rate on those earning over $205,000 from 33% to 38%; those earning between $144,000 and $205,000 from 29% to 32%; those earning betweein $93,000 and $144,000 from 26% to 28%. Those earning under $93,000 will receive a tax cut of 5%. Finally, the corporate tax will be reformed so that the net tax rate for corporations eqauls out to 12%; an increase of 1.5%. We will invest money in infrastructure builds across the country in order to provide jobs for the unemployed. Finally, the Prime Minister's annual salary of $340,000 will be cut to $200,000 in order to save money. The Prime Minister is easily capable of surviving on that salary.

4) Building a Sustainable Future: The NDP has always been leading the fight for a more sustainable environoment, and this year will be no different. An NDP government will invest tens of millions of dollars into jobs programs for wind farms, solar farms, hydrorelectric dams and biofuel plantations. This will ensure that we have a sustainable future and create jobs. Finally, we will invest millions increating additional recharge points for electric cars and into researching the feasibility of hydrogen fuel cell-powered cars.

5) Protecting the Rights of our Indigenous Population: There has been a serious lack of action regarding the First Nations, Inuit and Metis people in Canada. An NDP government will immediately create a cabinet level committee to ensure that indigneous treaties and rights are respected, fix the broken treaty process to deal with unresolved land claims, and open an inquiry into the 1,200 missing and murdered indigenous women and girls within the first 100 days of assuming government.
