I don't normally like to blow my own horn, but I'd like to in this case, because when the story about Trump calling Haiti and other countries a 'sh**thole' came out (seems like ages ago), most people seemed focused on that, and I pointed out that the most significant part of the story was Trump's (alleged) comment of 'get them out of here!' because I expected legal experts to take a look at whether the ordered deportation of Haitians in the United States as refugees was due to Trump's racism and not due to them no longer qualifying for refugee status. This is an example of not looking at the sensationalism but looking at the underlying consequences of a story.

NAACP Sues Trump Administration Over Ending Protected Status For Haitians

The Trump Administration should probably also be sued for revoking the refugee status of the El Salvadorans.

So, we'll see where this goes from here.

Good. Trump's own statements and actions have shown that he has animus towards immigrants, and particularly Black immigrants. Hope this succeeds.

More stupid, frivolous lawsuits to tie up the system. Lefty extremists are starting to take a page from the sovereign citizen kooks.

Yes, shame on the lawyers trying to uphold the Equal Protection and Due Process clauses.

It's a good point, and the courts will definitely buy this argument given how they've viewed the Muslim ban.

This is honestly something I've never understood about libertarian types.  They oppose a strong judicial system ("politicians should make the laws...".)  I would have thought they would love a strong judiciary that strikes down the ability of politicians to make arbitrary laws.  As a libertarian leaning liberal myself, that's the reason why I support a strong judiciary.

I disagree with the Trump administrations actions here but I'm not sure about the legal grounds for insisting that "temporary" refugee status would be required to last > 9 yrs.

Apparently, elected governments are not allowed to make decisions according to NAACP. Very democratic.

I know right? Last week I literally had a judge tell me to "hurry up" and he refused to look at some of my evidence because he "had a full docket " and all I could think of was why in the hell are taxpayers paying me to enforce the law when the courts arent even listening. Since the judge didnt care he continued 10 out of 15 of my cases, which imo explains why he always has a full docket. Functional courts and public jails are a necessity in a small government society.

So, if an elected government decided to put you in jail, you'd have no problem with that?

I'm sure that's what the Trump Administration will argue.

He should do a total moratorium on new immigration like he promised during the campaign. No discrimination involved. If a judge overturned it, it would be blatantly unconstitutional and anti-democratic.

It might require passing a law to do that.  Also, these Haitians (and El Salvadorians) are refugees, not immigrants. So, the Trump Administration might be breaking international laws in barring refugees from entering the United States.

The NAACP has every right to take up this matter.

Haiti is a nasty place to live, and that may explain why many Haitians want to live in America. Good people do come from horrid places, like the large wave of Jewish immigrants from Imperial Russia just over a century ago -- and displaced persons who survived the ultimate Hell on Earth, the camp system of Nazi Germany.

I suggest that you rent two movies: Fiddler on the Roof and Schindler's List.

No, I am not Jewish or descended from Jews.

Racism is an intellectual fraud.

Well not him obviously. But people with different colored skin, funny accents, or dirty hippies? You really think he's not just fine with send them to jail camps... places.

You must have been jonesing  for a good excuse to say n****** for a while there dude. The executive in charge of foreign policy determines that TEMPORARY status for refugees is no longer needed NINE YEARS after the natural disaster which brought them here ended. MUH NAZI RACISM! This is just like the stupid, frivolous challenges to the 2nd immigration order where the challengers argued that "well if ANY other President had issued the same word for word order it'd be legal, but since Trump did it we can impute that its illegal."

If Hillary had made the same determination, that TEMPORARY status for refugees is no longer needed NINE YEARS after the natural disaster which brought them here ended, there would be no bs NAACP argument that ending the status is ray-says. BUH TRUMP IS NAZI, so we know what he REALLY means! That's the epitome of a frivolous lawsuit.

Another poster implied I was racist. I find racism boorish and repugnant. I consider the implication deeply insulting. Especially when its just to distract from the fact that this is a frivolous lawsuit. Its also not an ethically appropriate form of legal argument which is why I expect better from the insulter.
