I have a couple co-workers with DS and neither of then have have tentacles covered with poisonous spikes protruding from their eye sockets.

Two really big problems with this poll:

1. 90%+ of posters on this forum are male. Men cannot choose to terminate a pregnancy.

2. This is a conversation that is highly emotionally charged and could change based on a discussion with the pregnant woman about this. Things like terminating a pregnancy aren't so black and white.

no that's eugenics. If I was a woman and pregnant and didn't want the child because it had a disease, I would just kill myself. It's not okay to only kill the child for something it can't control but then for yourself to go on living.

To be fair for that you first need to think that abortion is murder. Which most people in favour of legal abortion don't.

And even for many pro-life people having a kid with down syndrome is enough for aboriton to be justifiable. Why force parents to have a kid they can't support because of his illness? Down syndrome might be a light disease, but what about kids that will have uncurable and painful diseases when they are born?

Why bring a child to the world that will die early among terrible pain?

The attitude certain posters display is fairly disturbing, yes. But this isn't something I think its worthy of blanket condemnation.

In the US, 67% of pregnancies testing positive for Down Syndrome are terminated. 2/3 of them. I don't see why the choice made here is more worthy of condemnation than one done because the parents broke up after the pregnancy started or it was an accident.

If you're opposed to all abortions that's one stance many take, but opposing abortion only in circumstances like this, or only supporting the right to only in cases where you don't have misgivings is not a particularly consistent position.
