I would say that this won't cause too much of an impact, given the current trajectory of the India-US relationship (i.e. entering a love-in) but Modi is a very proud (some might say conceited) man. Still, Trump is his ally against Pakistan so probably this will be ignored.

I mean yes you could disagree with Bush’s policies but he didn’t embarrass the country worldwide

Bingo. We are in a whole new class of awful.

It's not just that. There are other Presidents who did embarassing or shameful or stupid things. Not with Trump's relentless awful pettiness, but Nixon, Johnson and others could do and say equally bad stuff.

But with Trump that's all there is. There is nothing more in Trump's head regarding India than making fun of its PM's accent. Nothing. Everyone reading this knows that, whether they admit it or not. He is a pathetic hollow shell of a human being, with the intellect of a child.

Embarrass? No. Diminish the world's view of the country in a similar fashion? Abso-freaking-lutely he did.

As an Indian-American, making fun of Modi is always a good thing.

Joe Biden used an Indian accent to imitate a credit card call center secretary.

This is the type of thing American college students would enjoy finding offensive, not the kind of thing that would actually be offensive to most people in India or especially to the right-wing prime minister of India.

You guys are one of the rare Indian-Americans I have seen who hate Modi. Most of the Indian-Americans I support Modi(even the ones who were Sanders supporters because they hate the INC that much).

I mean Modi is not as good as my family or I expected(we were expecting him to be India's Reagan or Thatcher) but he is still better than Rahul Gandhi

Rahul is a corrupt egomaniac.

But Modi is quite literally genocidal.

There's a reason the US banned him. A good reason.

He's not Reagan, or Thatcher.

He's Ted Cruz times ten.

He was proven to have no involvement in the Gujarat riots by the courts.

I have a question would you take Modi over Rahul if you also didnt believe he had any involvement in them either.  The fact is he wasnt and those charges were proven to be not true.

Not directly involved, fine, but he sure as hell wasn't against them. Imagine if the Charlotsville marchers started to riot and kill people, and then Trump reacted the same way he did IRL.

He made a stupid joke. It proves Democrats have say stupid "rashist" (as Glenn Grothman says) things too. If Biden was President and did the same thing as Trump, there wouldn't be a thread about this.

The Trump Era has led to modern Republicans being refreshingly open about many things.  As with their open embrace of alt-right misogyny, and white nationalism,  it is nice that the members of the GOP can be honest about the fact that they're freedom-hating stooges for Russia's authoritarianism.
