What a world class asshole.

https://www.arktimes.com/ArkansasBlog/archives/2018/01/18/activists-say-tom-cotton-has-a-do-not-call-or-write-list-for-some-constituents

Ozark Indivisible, the activist group that has been pressing members of Congress from Arkansas on health care, immigration and other issues, reported on its Twitter account last night that people calling Sen. Tom Cotton's office had received cease-and-desist letters and posted the image above.

The letter:

Fleming said he knew several people who'd received such a letter. He said he believed they all had made repeated phone calls to deliver similar talking points, but he said they were unlikely to have made rude or disparaging remarks.

Tom Cotton is a wimp who just like to bark really loud on the Senate floor.   He can't ever take any heat.

"All of us" weren't elected to represent Tom Cotton's constituents, he was.
"All of us" are not being paid to "talk" to Tom Cotton's constituents, but Cotton is.
Do your job, or get out.

I'd have no problem talking to them.  But it's Cotton's job, not mine, to represent his constituents.  It's hard to represent people when you won't listen to them.

He's obviously been offered a position in the Trump administration so he doesn't have to worry about his constituents

He wants to represent economic elites instead of the people of Arkansas. He ignores that the first Amendment includes the right of the People to seek redress of grievances. That includes against the policies of elected officials.

There are the McConnell types of Senators that just use their home states as a vessel to get into power and deal with issues relevant to them but not the state, and the Joe Manchin types, who actually choose to at least partially focus on issues pertinent to their states.

Are we surprised that Cotton is one of the former when he's so blatantly ambitious?

...and that is not how one gets re-elected.

Our political system has been terribly corrupted, with government representing economic elites far better than the People.  Maybe things have gone as far as they can in that direction... but we shall se in the next three Senate and House elections. Because Democrats lost little from the 2006 wave election in 2012, 2018 is still a reflection of the 2006 Democratic wave; 2020 will be a reflection of the 2014 wave, and 2022  could undo the 2010 wave in the Senate.

This.

Cotton is the Real Roy Moore.  He's a Megalomaniac with a God Complex.  I say he's the Real Roy Moore because he's a guy who sends out the impression that he doesn't view himself as accountable to anybody.

If people threaten an official, there are laws against it.  If folks wish to harangue an official with their particular rap, there's always the circular file.  If Cotton want's to be anti DACA and wishes to vote on healthcare as he does, that's his choice.  I have never heard of a public official who was actually considered Presidential timber take a position against dissidents as this guy.

So far as I know Senator Cotton does not mess with, and has not messed with, underage girls.

Tom Cotton got elected in the second Tea Party era wave election, and he can be swept out in the next wave. You are right about threats to a public official, and abusive behavior at a public encounter is disorderly conduct for which the offender can be escorted away at the discretion of the police. Vile communications by mail -- circular file if incoherent except for anger, and perhaps the Postal Inspector if a bit too explicit.

I was thinking of him more as Donald Trump with a bit more political savvy, which is even more dangerous. Sure, he's from an electorally-small state, but that is the same state from which we got Bill Clinton. Should America be in the right mood, this is what we could get.

Unless the Republicans have found a way to consolidate their power permanently (gerrymandering may prove less successful than intended because gerrymandering facilitates the rise of extremists) or have changed the political culture permanently (recent polls of approval of the President and Congress in general have been awful), this sort of pol may be a one-term Senator. So it is Arkansas? Arkansas used to elect the likes of Bill Clinton, Blanche Lincoln, and William Fulbright. Traditionally the fastest way to defeat for a politician is poor constituent service. Arkansas is a poor state, and if people vote their economic interests instead of identity they just might start electing moderate Democrats again.

One and gone? He won't be missed.

Elections have consequences, and if we vote someone in that we end up disliking, then that is our tough luck unless the pol does something so flagrant as to merit expulsion.
