If the legislature is smart, they'll craft a compromise with Wolf that sacrifices some districts to Ds and swing status, gives incumbents some predictability, and avoids the courts throwing the doors wide open to a radically redrawn new map.

If Ds are smart they take their chances with the 5-2 Dem court drawing the maps.

I was thinking about that. Maybe they'll throw Meehan under the bus, shore up Cartwright, make a compact, more Democratic Lehigh valley district, and call it a day.

Oooh. Has anyone done a D gerrymander of Pennsylvania? I thought that was hard to do.

How many GOP seats are at risk under a fair map?

Nate Cohn said that the Dems could pick up 1-6 seats. This is really bad for the Republicans.

Court gave them 25 days to draw a new map.

How many days was Florida given? And they ended up having to adopt the Women Voters map with slight changes.

They gave the legislature 100 days to do it, and when all was said and done I believe a new map wasn't adopted until December. A completely predictable response, tbh.

Little bit of a tangent here, but I strongly dislike the idea of letting a body of lawmakers who passed the first rigged map to get another shot at it. Many of the times this happens, they either try to pass another rigged map or the process breaks down and they don't end up passing anything at all. I mean, what is the point? They already proved themselves as corrupt the first go 'round, why trust them again?

I don't think so.
I remember having seen a fantasy gerrymander PA state senate map and that was giving a two third majority for the democrats while respecting all the VA requirements.

They didn't do it in Florida and they won't do it here. This is a state issue.

Four justices needed to stay and we have three partisan hacks (Gorsuck, Alito,Thomas) on the court maybe Kennedy and Roberts throw the GOP a line here. But if they didn't rule on FL in 2015 why now unless they are throwing precedent completely out the window here..

Wait how can SCOTUS hear a case that was decided based on the Pennsylvania Constitution, right?

Wouldn't they need to declare the Pennsylvania Constitution unconstitutional to overturn it?
