The hate boner this forum always has for Hanabusa is strange. She's no less "entitled" to the office than Schatz was or Ige is.

I still think Inouye’s will should've been done in regards to his seat, though Schatz has turned into an effective and progressive Senator.

I have to disagree with you there. Defying Inouye's request for a successor was the one of the greatest things Neil Abercrombie ever did:

I don’t see how that relates to Hanabusa though. She had a much stronger resume than Schatz in the first place, who was only appointed because he was Abercrombie’s lackie. Inouye was a pig, but Hanabusa should’ve been appointed regardless of whether Inouye wanted it or not.

He's just woefully inept and a very weak leader.

He has underwater approvals (38-35) with a ton of unknowns for someone who's been governor for three years already. 60% said they wanted "someone else" to be governor.

He was done the moment Hanabusa announced her campaign.

For some reason I just can never like Hanabusa
I'd probably still vote her for general if I were living in Hawaii, though.

If two incumbent governors in a row lose primaries, can we end the MUH HAWAII ALWAYS LOVES INCUMBENTS meme which originated solely because Dubya did better than expected there 14 years ago?

Ige apparently he knew it was a false alarm two minutes after the call went out, but dawdled in relaying the message

What is it with Hawaii and primariing Governors?

Partially it's the nature of a one party state; there's an odd ethnic cleavage that emerges a lot as well.
If two incumbent governors in a row lose primaries, can we end the MUH HAWAII ALWAYS LOVES INCUMBENTS meme which originated solely because Dubya did better than expected there 14 years ago?

This always struck me as a vaguely racist idea - "oh you know these Asians they always love their strong leaders!" They only kept Inouye and Akaka round for so long because of the huge amounts of cash they got for having entrenched senior incumbents, which is the same for all small and overlooked states.

Well, Akaka and Inouye also never did anything wrong per se that should have had them lose re-election in the primary or the general (except for Inouye and his sexual harassment, but it was sadly a different time...)

Additionally - I really don't agree that Ige should be blamed for any of this. Of course, I understand why he is, but I don't agree with it. I'm not sure what he, or anyone else in his position could have done.

I'm a big fan of ethnic cleavage myself.

Funny that until 2002 Hawaii was a state with an unbroken string of two-or more-terms Democratic Governors.

I think it's safe to say to Hanabusa's got a hammerlock on this primary now.

Losing a primary for being comically incompetent

Ige losing by a bigger margin than Abercrombie did is starting to look feasible.

My dream! Although we'd need him in Congress.

I'm shocked. When HanabUSA announced in September, I was beyond skeptical she would gain traction, and yet here we are.

Gabbard is endorsing Hanabusa.

Not looking good for Ige at all. Unless something exceedingly corrupt about Hanabusa comes out (which isn't impossible), he's toast.

Alright.
Do we think Ige is going to break 30? Because this looks awful for him.
