Oh man I'm trying so hard to resist the temptation to read the previous pages of this thread. This is gonna be a hilarious read when Manning inevitably gets like 6% of the vote and Cardin get 85%.

Trust me, don’t read it. This thread is a bipartisan, across-the-spectrum disaster zone.

Cardin's base is wealthy white Jewish suburbanites in Montgomery, Howard, and Baltimore county. They aren't generally enamored with the Iran deal.

I can see why one would think that, but realistically speaking that adds up to a tiny percentage of the Democratic electorate, even if one that punches above its weight. He must be doing something right with other Democratic voters... and many of those voters are not generally going to vote in a senate primary based on a certain interpretation of the Iran deal.

Just based on demographics, virgins will probably make up a larger proportion of Manning’s support than Cardin’s.

For some crazy reason I feel like people in my state would still somehow find a way to vote for a literal traitor for Senator and make her win.

Are you all forgetting that even if Manning were to somehow win it all, the Senate would refuse to seat her?

She isn't going to win, and the people who are supporting her know this.

No one - not even Manning herself - thinks she'd win the primary, let alone the general. She's basically running to bring attention to security, trans and foreign policy issues.

Trump apparently didn't think he'd win the primary or the general, so how is Manning any different from Trump?

Donna Edwards should run for this seat.  In a political climate in which black women are becoming civically engaged in record numbers?  A state that's heavily African-American?  If anyone wants to unseat Cardin, it's Edwards!

Donna Edwards couldn't even beat Van Hollen for the open seat.

Maryland doesn't go for "exciting" politicians not named Elijah Cummings.  It elected Martin O'Malley for God's sake.

Trump wasn't running against an entrenched incumbent.

I still find it hilarious that a TRANSWOMAN is considered some sort of Russian spy.

I guarantee you she hates Russia and Putin.

Then why did she aid a staunch Putin ally and likely FSB asset?

Because the gave the info to the NYT and WaPo first and they did nothing with it? And acting like she should have known everything we know now about WikiLeaks in 2018 way back in 2010 is an extremely bad faith line of criticism, and straight-up revisionist history?

How long of a period of time was there between her (rightfully) contacting NYT and WaPo and her pulling the trigger with Assange? Big newspapers (unlike, say, Fox News) do a ton of fact checking and CYA before they run something this big (like with the Pentagon Papers, a good if more extreme corollary). If it was, say, six or nine months, that’s one thing. Otherwise, if it was only a handful of weeks, that says something about Manning’s lack of patience more so than the newspapers

Also could've just given it to a non-American outlet that wouldn't be worried about legal ramifications, I mean would The Guardian seriously refuse to publish something like that?

People who work for the federal government also live in Maryland. A lot of them are Democrats. They don't view Chelsea Manning as a hero. Trust me.
