You might want to make amendments to edit "Southern" to Lincoln in a few parts.

That being said, much like my concerns about this when it was introduced in the South, while I can understand the need to see where the money goes, the work that would go into providing the actual numbers tied to every individual would be very costly and time consuming, and doesn't seem as economically feasible as the person who wrote this legislation might like to think. It would be much better if it was just the interactive program on the web site (obviously with a disclaimer stating this is an estimate based on information said person provided).

I would totally be on board with that except people who don't have access to internet in rural areas (another problem) can't access it. Perhaps mailing it would be a solution, but that isn't outlined in the bill's current form.

The thing is, offering it by mail also makes this bill even more expensive. Plus it's assuming all people want to know this information or care about it. Sending out a sheet with information to someone who doesn't care enough to keep is often just going to end up in the trash, so all that extra time and money spent to send it was wasted. If someone really wants to know, the website would be a great way to get that information.

Amendment #1:

We should probably vote on the amendment and continue with another vote on the actual bill later on since discussion is still taking place.

Assemblymen, please vote AYE, NAY, or ABSTAIN on the above amendment made to the bill.

With 2-0-1 of the members of the Assembly voting in favor of the amendment, it has now passed.

Speaking as a private citizen, I rather agree with Fhtagn on this point. With regard to those without internet service who might want to view this information, might I suggest their county courthouse or a similar location as a centralized repository for such?

That does sound like a good idea. I'll offer an amendment to accommodate this.

Unless I'm misunderstanding Truman's response, I believe he was suggesting that people can either obtain it via the website or the county courthouse.

So that would remove the mandate portion that requires sending it out to every taxpayer and the electronic mail bit.

I fear this bill could wind up being very expensive for administrative costs alone.  Plus, I think it would be a more worthwhile endeavor to explore something along the lines of return-free tax filing, or giving taxpayers the option to have their bill mailed to them and challenge it if they think they owe a smaller amount to the government.  That, at least, would probably be more valuable to taxpayers than getting a receipt.

let's be honest, we can not afford a complaint from everyone who thinks they owe 999.00 instead of 1,000 dollars. The other things you mentioned are not mutually exclusive with this bill.
