Yeah, I really don't get why Republicans are so keen on wishful thinking. All that happens then is that you have an even worse night than you expected. If you start with reasonable expectations, you're less likely to be disappointed (although a 2016 in reverse is always possible).

My dad has seen Newt Gingrich speak in person about rather non-political stuff (the topic was Hamilton and the Founding Fathers) at an event, and I think the man is FAR from dumb.  This prediction, however, is quite bizarre, whatever his motivations.
