Chill, he aint getting no nom again, the AL GOP will not forget their death wish.

If he somehow got the nom he would lose by even a bigger margin than this time.

The idea would (I assume) be to run as an independent out of spite.

I guess Roy Moore really does want to fulfill his ambition to be the GOP's version of Martha Coakley.

Is it possible to expel people from the party?

No. Sad

As for Antonio's comment, spot on.  I'm not saying the AL Dems are going to regain their glory or anything, but Doug Jones' election (and, more specifically, Roy Moore's horribleness) are nothing but good news for the future of the Alabama Democratic Party - an organization that has only been able to look to the past for like 20 years now.

And, to an earlier statement, people like Bannon, Moore and even Trump are doing nothing but longterm damage to the GOP, and they're perfectly fine with it.  "Sleeper agent" has too many connotations, but the effect is the same.

I don't think he can win a Republican primary, all his opponent has to do is point out that he managed to lose to Doug Jones and would likely lose to a Democrat again.

And the Democratic candidate is a blue dog woman who was the first female chief justice of the Alabama supreme court. Sue Bell Cobb. Perfect contrast.

In European style parties you totally can but that comes with even more issues (party discipline being incredibly strict for example).

I wonder if that would apply to the US parties under "freedom of association" though.

Sue Bell Cobb would crush Moore, no doubt.

Are people forgetting that 71% of Alabama Republicans didn't believe the allegations? Of course he has a shot.

The bigger problem for him in a GOP primary would be that he's already a proven loser.

With that many Republicans not believing the allegations Moore could easily run a campaign around being framed by detractors and win based only on hardcore conservatives viewing him as a victim.

My guess is, he'll run for Senate in 2020, beat Byrne in the primary, and lose to Jones by an even wider margin.

Turnout in the special was already at midterm levels by and large - but made possible by more Democrats and fewer Republicans than normal showing up. I imagine there'd be a decent number of additional Republicans who'd show up in 2018 due to there being many other races on the ballot and I'd be surprised if less than half of them would be willing to vote for Moore.

However, Democrats have demonstrated an ability to win a federal office statewide in AL under relatively normal (or high, depending on how you look at it) turnout conditions. For 2018, the question would be 1) how many Republican-leaning voters would feel more comfortable voting Democratic in a state contest (as opposed to a federal contest) and 2) how many Republican-leaning voters would feel comfortable voting for a Democrat they already supported in the past (Sue Bell Cobb).

I wonder what excuse Republicans would come up with to vote for Moore over Cobb. The cop-out abortion excuse won't hold up.

Same with Maddox. All his usual lines would fall flat against either of them - especially Cobb, who is very much like Jones in the sense that she embodies the "law and order" Moore harps on about.
