What would happen if Jim Webb was chosen as Donald Trump's VP?

The religious right and nevertrumpers who were ameliorated by the selection of Pence would have bolted due to his picking a pro-choice Democrat as his running mate.

He may have won Virginia though, but I'd doubt it. Webb would be a pretty bad pick for Trump.

Would have gained him a few votes in Virginia, but hurt elsewhere. Pence really helped to bring the Cruz crowd home, without him they would have voted Johnson/McMullin/Castle, or just left the presidential race blank, or just stayed home.

Loses Utah, maybe Wisconsin and Michigan, but gains quite a few votes in New Hampshire, Maine, and Virginia. With three liberals like Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Jim Webb at his side, I see Trump going after universal healthcare, infrastructure megabill, and the like first.

Does Clinton or McMullin win Utah in this scenario?

What would make him do that?

How?

I'm OK with Webb, but why would Trump pick him?
To appeal to WWC Democratic voters, I would assume.

Pence was a really brilliant pick. One of the better things that Trump did. Pence would've lost IN-Gov, so getting him out of that was good for the GOP. As you mentioned, Pence brought the evangelical wing home to Trump. Apparently he was Manafort's idea. Haven't seen any indication that Pence was dirty before. Say what you will about Manafort, his choice of Pence was absolutely brilliant. Since he became VP, he's been a pretty stalwart supporter of Trump and his policies while keeping evangelical support.

Picking Webb would only have doubled down on the WWC image and would have done nothing to shore up the evangelical wing. I'm guessing that a fair amount of them would've stayed home, some may have voted McMullin, maybe Castle, but I doubt that many would vote for Johnson if they knew anything of his policies.

I kind of don't think so. It's hard to describe just how much religious right voters hate Hillary Clinton.

On #NeverTrump voters, yeah, you're probably right.
